Bethesda has taken to social media to alert players that new updates are inbound and that they should take “precautionary” measures to preserve their mods. The developer does unfortunately have a reputation among the gaming community for breaking mod support with its updates. Still, it is a positive sign that it is giving a heads-up to help prevent this from happening again.

“On Tuesday, August 18th, a patch will be coming to Fallout 4 focusing on general Creations improvements.

As a precaution, prior to these updates we encourage players to log into your game save if you haven’t done so in a while or manually save your load order. Once your load order is saved, you’ll be able to re-download your entire Creations list at once when the update is live.

Additionally, we are also working on a Skyrim update with details to come soon.”

While the first update is launching tomorrow for Fallout 4, another is on its way for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Users are advised to save their load orders so that they can be restored post-updates. In regard to TESV, it’s interesting that it too is getting an update, as rumors regarding the next game’s full title began circulating again this weekend. YouTuber EpicNate has claimed that their sources have confirmed it will be called “Sentinel,” and some have said there are easter eggs here and there, as seen in Starfield, to prove it. This being said, it’s entirely possible that, aside from various technical updates to The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Bethesda Game Studios could sneak in some added Sentinel references as well.

Meanwhile, fans of Fallout 4 are uneasy, to say the least, about tomorrow’s update, and it remains unknown exactly what changes the developers are planning to make. Regardless, many are worried about what mods will be broken once they reload the game, and it’s only a roll of the dice to see what will be when the update finishes.

Bethesda's the worst developer. The fact that you have to update mods specifically with each patch level of the game is asinine. It still does things like its 2007. From game design to the backend of the game, it's still the same shitshow as always.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
