Rockstar Games has issued a statement declaring how heartbroken its team is over the many leaked videos of GTA VI ahead of its extended preview on Netflix. It could be said that the developer is dealing with more leaks than a submarine with mutliple screendoors as footage including maps, gameplay mechanics, animations, vehicles, NPC interactions, and more continue to pop up online. These videos shared by someone calling themself Cyberleek have been appearing for over a week and despite a subpuena from publisher Take-Two Interactive to Microsoft and Discord, they just keep coming. The further rub of it all is that the poster claims to have access to a PC build version of the game from whence some of the footage was created. If true it would indicate that development for the PC version is already in progress even if it won’t be available at launch next month when the game arrives for consoles.

Meanwhile, today, Rockstar Games is planning an extended preview of Grand Theft Auto VI that will stream exclusively (that is until folks begin re-posting clips on every platform known to human kind) on Netflix. Rockstar has thanked its fans for expressing their support amid the drama surrounding the ongoing leaked footage and issued the following statement via social media.

Dear all,

We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week. It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time. We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has—from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.

We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow. It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve. While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers, we hope that everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19.

We want to thank everyone in the community who has reached out with messages of support this past week—your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine. Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games.

We look forward to sharing more with you soon.
Sincerely, Rockstar Games”

It has already been previously stated that Grand Theft Auto VI would follow the release path of its predecessors and launch first on consoles and then on PC after. This marketing strategy is usually a straightfoward attempt to reap as much profit from one market before the next and added revenue from those who might double-dip in getting both. However, with November 19 not too far off on the horizon, and supposedly the existence of a PC build out in the wild, one wonders how long until Take-Two releases the PC version or if the early build will find its way online as well.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
