MSI has announced new Z690 motherboards for 12th Gen Intel Core processors and a product line called Powered by MSI. It is intended to assist DIY enthusiasts with compatibility issues in building or modifying their PCs. MSI has also announced the world’s first PC cases to support the new USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20 Gbps) standard.

Z690 Motherboards

There are versions for all that support PCIe 5.0 and DDR5. Gaming and PRO Series are also available in versions supporting DDR4. Memory overclocking performance for DDR5 has been improved by over 30 percent with XMP 3.0. PCIe ports have been re-enforced with extra solder points on the PCB for modern graphics cards, which have grown considerably in size and weight with recent generations. Select models have up to five M.2 SSD slots, including up to four M.2 Gen4 slots. All Z690 motherboards feature a new rotatable EZ M.2 clip to assist in installing the drives.

Powered by MSI

MSI has started a new product line after research and feedback from its customers regarding compatibility and stability issues when building a PC. The branding will cover motherboards, coolers, power supplies, and PC cases to assure customers that said products are compatible with each other.

One of our feedback surveys indicates that many DIY users experienced some form of compatibility issue during PC assembly. To address these concerns, MSI is introducing a new concept known as: “Powered by MSI”, which aims to provide a brand new experience to the DIY community. It keeps the flexibility of a DIY PC and offers the stability of a desktop. With Powered By MSI products, users no longer need to worry about compatibility and stability risks. We put in a lot of effort to make sure all MSI products including motherboard, liquid cooler, power supply unit, and PC case, work well with one another.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
