Call of Duty fans who are restricted to Sony consoles have nothing to fear, as the franchise’s next installments will also be coming to the PlayStation.
That’s according to a new report from Bloomberg, whose sources have claimed that the next three Call of Duty games aren’t exclusive to the Xbox, contrary to what some fanboys had assumed after Microsoft announced its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard last week. The deal gives Microsoft reign over not only Call of Duty, but numerous other critically acclaimed franchises that include Warcraft and Diablo.
“Before news of the $69 billion acquisition broke last week, Activision had already committed to make the next few Call of Duty games available on Sony’s console, according to four people with knowledge of the deal, speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to speak to press,” Bloomberg reported.
“For at least the next two years, Microsoft is committed to releasing Call of Duty on PlayStation, the people said. Neither Sony, nor Activision responded to requests for comment. Microsoft declined to comment.”
The news may not be surprising for gamers who have been following Phil Spencer, as the head of Xbox recently confirmed over Twitter that Microsoft would be honoring pre-existing agreements that Sony had made with Activision Blizzard regarding the Call of Duty franchise. That said, there’s still plenty for Xbox loyalists to brag about, such as the high probability of future Call of Duty games being added to Microsoft’s game subscription services, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, on day one.
