God of War Ragnarök released just two days ago but is already proving to be a massive sales success, particularly in certain regions such as the UK, where it’s poised to become the biggest launch in the franchise’s history, according to sales data and remarks from charts firm GfK. GamesIndustry.biz, which reported on the data, did not appear to provide specific numbers but noted that God of War Ragnarök will likely be the fourth time that a game in the series manages to release at the top of the charts, following on the successful heels of titles that include 2018’s God of War and God of War 3, the latter of which released for PS3 in 2010 and featured the original, angrier Kratos. GfK boss Dorian Bloch additionally confirmed that 55% of PS5 console sales this week are part of the new God of War hardware bundle.

From a GamesIndustry.biz report:
It is on-course to be the fourth game in the series to top the UK boxed charts, the firm has said.
The first game was released in July 2005 on PS3 and debuted at No.5 – one of just two times that a main God of War title didn’t debut at No.1. The second game in the series, released two years later in May 2007 (also on PS2 and after the PS3 was released) reached No.1. The franchise moved to PS3 for God of War 3 in Mach 2010, and also topped the charts once again.
The fourth mainline title, God of War Ascension, arrived three years later but was held off No.1 by the Tomb Raider reboot from Crystal Dynamics.
Now we are at the launch of God of War Ragnarok, and based on boxed sales alone, it will become the biggest God of War title launch in the UK.
