The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series, codenamed Storm Peak, will feature SKUs with up to 96 cores, according to Benchleaks, who spotted engineering sample entries (1, 2) listed on Einstein@Home, an application that leverages the idle time of users’ computers to search for weak astrophysical signals.

“Number of processors: 192,” reads a line from both entries, teasing a chip that features 192 threads and 96 cores, a number that would put the processor in line with AMD’s new 4th Gen EPYC flagship, which is listed with 96 cores, a 3.7 GHz boost clock, and 360-watt TDP.

Following the latest development, it seems that OPN codes for three unannounced Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series models have been leaked thus far:

  • AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000884-21_N (96 Core / 192 Thread)
  • AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000884-20_Y (96 Core / 192 Thread)
  • AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000454-20_Y (64 Core / 128 Thread)

AMD announced its Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series workstation processors, led by the 64-core, 128-thread AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX, in March 2022. They were released for the DIY market in August.

Ryzen Threadripper users can seemingly expect a flagship that features a higher core count in the next generation, alongside support for newer technologies such as DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.

AMD previously noted that there would be no non-PRO Ryzen Threadripper models going forward.

Yup!

Also, with 3D V-cache on more than eight cores / one die!

That would be a smoking fast chip… the size of a dinner plate. I totally want one although I have no practical use for it

Same; from what I've seen, the motherboards aren't that much more expensive than the higher-end consumer socketed boards, and the ones for the current Threadripper Pro are even cheaper than the halo consumer boards (Xtreme, Godlike, Extreme...).

While also being rather well equipped with things like TB4 and one or more 10Gbit copper NICs, so you can burn your PCIe lanes on things that need them like storage.

I'm still bitter that there was no Zen 3 drop in upgrade fro my TRX40 system.

I'll probably never buy another Threadripper because of it.

We were promised long term support, but instead got shafted by AMD.

That's definitely how it feels.
