Introduction
Red Dead Redemption II was recently released for Windows PC systems on November 5th, 2019. The game has been out for a year now prior to this on PlayStation 4 and XBOX One. It is now time for PC gamers to finally get this game, a year later, but at least PC gamers can now play it.
This game is the third entry in the Red Dead series and in storyline is a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. The game is an action-adventure genre game with first and third-person perspectives. Red Dead Redemption II is developed by Rockstar Studios and published by Rockstar Games.
Game Engine
Red Dead Redemption II is based on the RAGE graphics engine which stands for Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. This is a proprietary game engine developed by RAGE Technology Group. Other Rockstar games that use this engine will be familiar, Grand Theft Auto V, Max Payne 3 and many others.
Uniquely, this game supports both the Vulkan API (which is the default setting) and DirectX 12. Therefore, the game engine has evolved quite a bit over time and supports the latest technologies on the PC. This game has proven to be very graphically intense.
