Radeon Installer

This is where the new features of AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition start.  The initial installer has been updated to a great deal.  AMD’s goal with the new install process is to make it easier and quicker to install.

The key feature here is that AMD is aiming for a “one-click” setup.  That is you simply click Install, and it does the rest.  There is also a new function called “Factory Reset” to completely re-set the software before installation.  But don’t worry AMD includes a “Keep User Settings” option to keep your Radeon Software Settings.

In addition to this, the install time has been improved by up to 34% faster.  There is however an Additional Options menu you can bring down if you want to customize your install instead of relying on the one-click install process.

User Profiles

User Profiles is another new addition to the Radeon Software.  When you first launch Radeon Software a menu will ask you what type of profile to enable.  These profile settings actually enable or disable certain features inside Radeon Software automatically based on your answer.  There is a Gaming profile, an E-Sports profile, and a Standard profile.

If you are looking for no changes to the software, i.e. you don’t want it to turn on or off certain features automatically then chose the Standard profile.  Standard profile is the basic default Radeon Software options.  Standard profile is also the profile that should be set if you are a hardware reviewer or reviewing video cards because the gaming and esports profiles can and will change video card gaming performance.

A Chance for Performance Bias

This means there’s a little bit of scrutiny you need to be aware of when reading future reviews from websites.  Performance results can be biased or skewed if the reviewer chooses the Gaming profile or E-Sports profile.  Be aware of what profile setting reviewers are using in their reviews.  If a review doesn’t state what profile they are using in their test setup page then there’s a possibility performance could be skewed in that review.  Note that we will always choose the standard profile, which is the default settings, and we will state that in our test setup pages.

This slide above shows what settings are enabled in the Gamer and E-Sports profiles.  The Gamer profile enables Enhanced Sync, Radeon Image Sharpening, Radeon Anti-Lag, and Virtual Super Resolution.  Therefore, this setting will affect gaming performance versus the Standard profile.  You can also see that the E-Sports profile enables Radeon Image Sharpening, Radeon Anti-Lag, and 8X Tessellation Limit.  Therefore, this profile will also affect your gaming performance versus the Standard profile.
