1440p Performance

Now it is time for 1440p performance.  Once again, we have the same game settings as shown on the Game Menu pages, and 4K Performance page.  We will compare the high-end video cards for this test and again show DX12 and DX11.

DX12

Well, it is no surprise the ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the fastest video card at 1440p.  It provides 161FPS average, so if you need over 144Hz, that’s the card for you in this game.

Otherwise, it looks like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 FE is faster than the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT in this game.  Both are reference, non-factory overclocked video cards.  The GeForce RTX 2080 FE is 19% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, which is quite surprising.  It stands to reason a GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER would also be faster.

What’s really shocking is that the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER is actually faster than the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT.  It’s 9% faster, which does come as a shock to us.  Again, both are reference cards, no factory overclock, yet the RTX 2070 SUPER is faster.

Here’s the thing though, yes the AMD GPUs are getting beat by the competition here, however, let’s think in terms of the gameplay experience.  At the performance shown, 100FPS+ these differences don’t really matter in terms of the gameplay experience.  Even the AMD Radeon RX 5700, which is the “slowest” video card here, is averaging 97FPS, near 100FPS.  That level of performance is more than playable.  There was no stuttering, gameplay was smooth, framerates were plenty high enough to enjoy the game with no problems.

Therefore, when it really comes down to it, this game performs really well and you don’t need an expensive video card to enjoy it at 1440p.

DX11

In DX11 it’s more of the same.  You can actually see that performance is higher on every video card.   The same pattern holds true though.  In reality though, the gameplay experience is the same between all the video cards.  Even the Radeon RX 5700 can play this game easily at the highest in-game settings at 1440p with smooth performance.
