Intel High-End Gaming PC Build: Motherboard

While all of the components we are selecting here today are what we would go with, and priced from vendors we trust, it is always a good idea to shop around as deals on these, or other good options, pop up from other reliable vendors all the time. With that said, let’s dive right into the next order of business.

Now that we have one half of our foundation for our build we need what is, essentially, its mate; a motherboard. For both our Core i9’s, we select an ASUS product with the ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME OMEGA making a great choice. The X299 chipset that the ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME OMEGA features brings us the most updated feature set available for Intel’s product stack (though it is somewhat dated now). The ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME OMEGA then adds a whole bunch more features making this board a real premium product even among premium products. From 10 Gb/s LAN to tons of NVMe drive support, to overclocking features out the wazoo this board is the best of the Intel-based offerings in this space.

On the downside, the audio performance on this board can be a bit wonky initially necessitating some tuning that just should not be a thing on a board this high-end. On top of that, this is an expensive board. Sure, you can point to server boards and multi-socket boards that are more expensive, but this is a single socket HEDT board. An expensive, HEDT single-socket board at that. But, you have to pay to play and, with this board, you can play with just about any other offering out there and then come out on top. So, with that in mind, you can’t find a much better match for a Core XE/X build than this if you are looking for performance and features like those found in the X299 chipset in general, and this board in particular.
