One of the PlayStation 5’s biggest selling points stems from its SSD, which enables drastically reduced loading times. It appears that Sony fans won’t have to wait until November to get a feel for how quickly older games will load on the next-gen console, however.

Naughty Dog has released a new patch for The Last of Us Remastered (version 1.11) that reduces its loading times by a staggering degree. According to a demonstration shared by ElAnalistaDeBits, 14 seconds is all it takes to load a new game or existing save. Previous versions of the game could take up to 2 minutes to load a level.

Here’s a sample of some of the improved loading times that patch 1.11 brings to The Last of Us Remastered:

Loading a new game

  • Before: 01:30:10
  • After: 00:13.86

Loading a save

  • Before: 02:03:16
  • After: 00:13.86

Loading DLC

  • Before: 01:06.20
  • After: 00:17.53

Skipping a scene

  • Before: 00.00.90
  • After: 00.00.60

Returning to main menu

  • Before: 00.09.50
  • After: 00.05.60

It’s unclear what kind of magic Naughty Dog conjured to achieve this, but the new loading times are definitely remarkable. Unfortunately, the patch notes are of no help – in fact, they don’t even mention anything about the addition of improved loading times.

We can’t wait to see how quickly The Last of Us Remastered and other first-party titles might load on the PlayStation 5.
