1440p EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Performance
Let’s start at 1440p performance, on the next page we will look at 4K performance. Keep in mind that with these GPUs as fast as they are 1440p is a bottlenecked resolution. The advantages will be greater, at 4K. However, there are gamers at 1440p, and buying these video cards for 1440p gaming, and so we will see how the performance compares. All of our games are running at the highest settings, sans Ray Tracing and DLSS, we will look at those features on a separate page. We are using in-game benchmarks where possible, and manual run-throughs when not possible.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion we are running at 1440p with HD Textures installed and “Ultra” preset. The EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is slightly faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition, by a slight 2%. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti FE it’s 19% faster. Overclocking the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING has improved performance by 4%, compared to the RTX 3080 FE that’s 6% faster. In terms of playability, both cards are playable at this setting, very playable, while overclocking improves performance it’s not extremely noticeable since the framerates are already high at this resolution. There is a noticeable difference coming from the older GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE however, for a lot less money.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn at 1440p the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the EVGA video card adds 3% more to performance, making it 6% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Compared to the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE the EVGA video card overclocked is 30% faster. The performance here is very playable on all video cards, but the EVGA RTX 3080 is into the 120+ category, so that would work well for 120Hz displays at 1440p in this game.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
This game you just have to understand it’s CPU dependent, especially at anything under 4K. It is no surprise these video cards lineup this way. However, it is interesting we did get a slight FPS uplift on the overclocked EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING video card. At these framerates the game is very playable on all of these video cards at 1440p.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very GPU dependent game, and finally, we start to see some larger differences. The EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the EVGA video card adds 7% more performance, which is nice to see. Compared to the RTX 3080 FE the EVGA card is now 10% faster, making a good difference. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti FE the overclocked EVGA card is 31% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
In Ghost Recon Breakpoint at 1440p the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is slightly faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the EVGA video card is 5% faster than it is at default. The overclocked performance is 6% faster than the RTX 3080 FE. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti FE the overclocked EVGA video card is 32% faster.
Gears 5
In Gears 5 we find it to be a bit CPU bottlenecked on these video cards at 1440p. We do get a little better performance with the overclocked EVGA card, but not by a lot. Performance is very fast, and compared to the RTX 2080 Ti it’s 15% faster.
Control
In Control the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is 4% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the EVGA video card adds 5% more performance. The overclocked EVGA RTX 3080 is 9% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Performance is very playable at above 120+ FPS with the EVGA video card overclocked.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
In Wolfenstein Youngblood’s performance is, to say the least, fast. In the upper 200’s range, no one should have issues playing this game smoothly with these video cards. Of note, overclocking the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING does improve performance by 5% over default despite the high performance. This performance is 38% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
Metro Exodus
In Metro Exodus any extra performance we can get in this game is welcomed. Overclocking the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING actually provided us 6% more performance in this, which is welcomed even at 1440p. It allows a very smooth gameplay experience at the highest image quality. This is 26% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the EVGA card adds 5% more performance.
