4K Gaming Performance

Next up, we’ll place all the chips in the middle of the table and see how the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G performs at the 4K resolution. As we know from prior testing, the 3070 class GPUs should be in the same ballpark as the RTX 2080 Ti, but this time we have a factory overclocked RTX 2080 Ti so we can expect it to work in some games at 4K and not in others. All of the games are running at the highest quality selections available sans Ray Tracing and DLSS which we will look at separately. For each game, we are using the game benchmark included with the game and reporting the average frames per second.

Cyberpunk 2077

In Cyberpunk 2077, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G turned in 28.9 FPS across the manual run through. This does not represent a good playing experience at all and was bested by 0.4 FPS by the AMD Radeon RX 6800. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G bumped up the FPS to 29.8 which was not enough to make a difference other than jumping above the RX 6800 in the charts.

Horizon Zero Dawn

In Horizon Zero Dawn, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G achieved 61 FPS which is a hair under the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti at 61.3 FPS and two hairs under the AMD Radeon RX 6800 at 63 FPS. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G called it a draw at 63 FPS with the RX 6800.

Red Dead Redemption 2

In Red Dead Redemption 2, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G chalked up 43.5 FPS which was behind the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti at 46.6 FPS and the AMD Radeon RX 6800 at 56.3 FPS. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G bumped it up to 46.6 FPS and ahead of the AMD Radeon RX 6800. Based on the performance observed, we would not suggest maxing out image quality on any of these cards at 4K to play Red Dead.

Metro Exodus

In Metro Exodus, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G delivered 40.3 FPS which was below the 42.3 FPS and 42.2 FPS that the AMD Radeon RX 6800 and ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti turned in, respectively. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G moved it to the top of the pile at 43.3 FPS. Regardless, this is not a game you’ll want to play at 4K with any of these cards.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G flipped through 60 frames per second which fell below the AMD Radeon RX 6800’s 66 frames flipped per second. The ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti fell to the bottom at 59 FPS. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G called it a draw with the RX 6800 at 66 FPS.
