Marvel’s Wolverine is proving far more successful than many expected, despite the underwhelming launch reviews from players and reviewers alike. Insomniac Games has already established itself in creating a Spider-Man franchise with its three games, but Wolverine is its first venture into developing another character’s world. Early reviews for Marvel’s Wolverine criticised the developers for overhandholding systems, which left little choice in exploration for players and an overall bland playing experience, but did give praise for its cinematics and story. As has been said, show me the money, and well, players have, and the game is doing extremely well despite not getting high praise out of the gate. Alinea Analytics has tracked some rather impressive sales numbers, one of which shows that the game sold 1.9 million copies for a total of $130M in gross revenue in just three days.
The good news doesn’t stop there for Insomniac Games, with its first non-Spider-Man-related title, Marvel’s Wolverine is breaking PS5 sales records left and right. It has already surpassed total sales for Death Stranding 2 ($128M) and is selling faster than Ghost of Yōtei ($121.9M), Helldivers 2 ($18.9M), Stellar Blade ($32.7M), and Astro Bot ($34.6M). It has also managed to be #6 in most Alinea’s 2026 gross revenue sales chart and could easily make it to the number five slot currently occupied by Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Something else that Alinea Analytics tracking has illuminated on is that its has been a very profitable year for the gaming industry. Marvel’s Wolverine is in good company with many other games experiencing successful launches, which include: Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, 2K27, Crimson Desert, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, EA Sports College Football 27, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and most recently, Wardogs. All of these titles were launched ahead of what is expected to be the kaiju-sized launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, and there are more titles on the way, such as Metro 2039, Fable, and Exodus. We may not have new graphics cards, but we do have a ton of new AAA titles on hand and more to come.
