1440p Gaming Performance

To start the bidding today, we will look at the 1440p performance of the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G video card in an assortment of games. Remember, the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Ti is a custom factory overclocked video card. All of the games are running at the highest quality selections available sans Ray Tracing and DLSS which we will look at separately. For each game, we are using the game benchmark included with the game and reporting the average frames per second.

Cyberpunk 2077

In Cyberpunk 2077, we are using patch version 1.06 of the game, the Ultra “Quick Preset” without modifications. We are performing a manual run-through of a set driving route through the city and averaging our results over multiple runs. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G turned in a performance of 57 FPS which barely trailed the AMD Radeon RX 6800 by 0.6 FPS. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G boosted performance to 59 FPS.

Watch Dogs: Legion

In Watch Dogs: Legion we do have the HD Textures installed. We are running in “Ultra” quality with the Extreme Detail slider maxed out, as well as the Headlights quality option maxed out. In this way, we are running “maximum” game settings. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G trailed the AMD Radeon RX 6800 by 3 FPS or about 4.4% and tied the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G brought it to parity with the AMD Radeon RX 6800 at 71 FPS. Overall, all cards in the line up provide for a great experience playing Watch Dogs: Legion.

Horizon Zero Dawn

In Horizon Zero Dawn the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G averaged 102 FPS just a few frames behind the AMD Radeon RX 6800 and ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G increased performance by 5.2% bringing it ahead of the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti but still 5 FPS short of the RX 6800. With all cards turning in scores over 100 FPS, they’re all great choices for Horizon Zero Dawn.

Red Dead Redemption 2

In Red Dead Redemption 2, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G rang up 63.9 FPS compared to the 68.8 FPS and 68.3 FPS of the AMD Radeon RX 6800 and ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti respectively. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G edged it closer to the other two at 67 FPS but did not move up in the rankings.

Metro Exodus

In Metro Exodus, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G pulled 59.7 FPS out of its hat, about a single point five FPS short of the hats worn by the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti and the AMD Radeon 6800. However, overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G produced 62.5 FPS allowing it to take the top hat position.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, because all of the cards performed so well, we went ahead and turned on Ray Tracing for testing at 1440p. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G jumped to the front of the line with 72 FPS. The ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti and AMD Radeon RX 6800 turned in 70.6 FPS and 66 FPS respectively. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G increased its lead over the others by a trio of FPS.
