We have no idea why Matt Damon was in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, but it appears that the popular actor had a good enough time on set to consider returning again for the franchise’s next installment. As reported by news.com.au, the Jason Bourne star was spotted in Sydney for an undisclosed role in director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which will switch things up by making Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster, the new God of Thunder.

“Damon’s role in Thor: Love and Thunder, which will film in Sydney under director Taika Waititi, remains a mystery,” news.com.au reported. “Eagle-eyed fans will have previously spotted Damon in Thor: Ragnarok cameoing as an actor playing Loki in a stage play in Asgard.”

It isn’t clear whether Damon will have a more substantial role this time around, but those of you who missed out on his cameo in Thor: Ragnarok can check it out below. According to a separate report from Digital Spy, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji star Karen Gillan will also appear in the film alongside other veterans such as Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Tessa Thomson (Valkyrie), and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif).

Thor: Love and Thunder is tentatively scheduled for release on May 6, 2022. The movie was originally set to debut on November 5, 2021, but the pandemic forced Marvel Studios to push all of its Phase 4 features back.
