Since launching in November, the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 have become highly sought-after items that are sold out everywhere. Ironically, this hasn’t equated to record-breaking sales for either company. Research Director Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis has published a report showing how next-gen console sales have matched the previous launches.

Xbox Series X|S sales (2.8 million) almost match the Xbox One (2.9 million), while the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 both sold 4.2 million units. Supply constraints have been a factor, but Sony expects to reach close to 8 million sales by the end of March.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
