Power and Temperature

To test the power we ran Cinebench R23 at full-load and plotted the reading from HWiNFO64’s CPU Package Power in Wattage.

Power

Intel Core i5-11600K CPU Package Power

In terms of power, the Intel Core i5-11600K consumes the most, it’s 97% more power hungry than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. That’s insane, to be honest. Considering that it was only slightly faster at times, or even slower at times, the power demand doesn’t make sense based on the performance delivered. It is entirely in-efficient in power to performance ratio. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X has a huge advantage in being efficient with its power to performance. The i5-11600K even consumes 41% more power than the last generation.

The Intel Core i5-11600K ran the hottest at full-load in Cinebench R23. However, while gaming it actually ran the coolest. It was warmer than the i5-10600K though at full-load due to the higher power draw. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X ran the hottest though while gaming, and was close to the i5-11600K in Cinebench. It is well known the new Ryzen chips run pretty hot as well.
