Microsoft has announced its latest competitors to Apple’s MacBook line, the Surface Laptop 4. This year’s devices retain the iconic design and Alcantara palm rests of its predecessor but boast increased performance thanks to its new CPU options, which comprise 11th Gen Intel Core mobile processors (i5-1135G7, i7-1185G7) and AMD Ryzen 4000 Series mobile processors with Radeon graphics (Ryzen 5 4680U, Ryzen 7 4980U). It isn’t clear why Microsoft opted for red team’s older, Zen 2-based chips rather than step up to the Ryzen 5000 Series with higher-performing Zen 3 cores, but its Surface Laptop 4 devices are available to order beginning today at a starting price of $999.99.
