Gameplay Performance
It is now time to look at gameplay performance on the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X. Since AMD has positioned the Radeon RX 6700 XT as a 1440p gaming capable video card, this is the resolution we will target and compare. In all our graphs below the OVERCLOCKED MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X is set at: 2840MHz/17.2GHz. We are comparing with a Founders Edition GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. We are also using a Radeon RX 6700 XT reference video card. Note that Resizable BAR is enabled on all video cards.
Cyberpunk 2077
For Cyberpunk 2077 we are using patched version 1.21 for testing. We use the in-game graphics presets for testing at “Ultra” settings. Ray Tracing and DLSS are on a separate page. We do a manual run-through in the game for the benchmark data.
Cyberpunk 2077 is naturally a demanding game, but at 1440p the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X does quite admirably. It provides 54FPS average at 1440p, giving a decent gameplay experience. It certainly is faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti by 7% and gives a better experience. When we overclock it the performance gain is 7%. This brings it up to near 60FPS and a much smoother experience. While it is faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, it is not faster than the GeForce RTX 3070. Only when overclocked does it equal GeForce RTX 3070 performance.
Dirt 5
In Dirt 5 we set all the graphics options to the highest values. We manually select the resolution and do not let the game manage automatic resolution scaling, we hard set the resolution in all three categories to the resolution being tested. We use the built-in benchmark.
Dirt 5 plays great on the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X at 1440p with the highest in-game settings. It provides 90FPS average gameplay, which is perfect for this fast-driving game. That performance, though, is just equal to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, while the GeForce RTX 3070 is 17% faster. When we overclock the MSI RX 6700 XT performance improves by 4%. This brings performance over the RTX 3060 Ti, but the RTX 3070 is still 12% faster.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion we use the graphics preset to select “Ultra” quality. We use the built-in benchmark for testing.
Watch Dogs Legion is another game that can be demanding, but the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X does a fantastic job at 1440p. It provides playable gameplay performance well above 60FPS, at 66FPS average. This makes the game very smooth and enjoyable. Performance is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, though the RTX 3070 is 11% faster. When we overclock the MSI RX 6700 XT GAMING X performance increases 6%. This puts it just under RTX 3070 performance, they are very close now.
Assassins Creed Valhalla
We test Assassins Creed Valhalla at the “Ultra High” graphics setting, which is the highest. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Assassins Creed Valhalla we see a very large bias towards AMD GPU performance in this game. Here we have the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X beating both the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070. It’s beating the RTX 3060 Ti by 24% and the RTX 3070 by 14%. When we overclock the MSI RX 6700 XT GAMING X performance increases by 6%. It now provides 88FPS average, which is very smooth gameplay and enjoyable at 1440p.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn we enable the “Ultimate Quality” graphics option. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing.
In Horizon Zero Dawn the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X also provides a great gameplay experience near 100FPS. This puts it on par with the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, while the RTX 3070 is 12% faster. When we overclock it performance increases by 5%. When it is overclocked it is closer to RTX 3070 performance now.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 we always use the most updated version and we enable the “Ultra” graphics preset and select resolution as needed. We do have live online terrain enabled; however, we do disable traffic. We fly the Australia landing activity and record the framerate from an external view of the aircraft.
Right off the bat, it is clear the GeForce RTX 3070 has a huge advantage at 1440p in this game. The MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X struggles at 1440p and “Ultra” settings, as does the Radeon RX 6700 XT. The AMD GPUs are just slower in this particular game. However, lower framerates are acceptable in this game, and even at 40FPS average, the game is more than playable. When we overclock the MSI RX 6700 XT performance increases by 6%. This makes it the second-fastest card on this graph, once it is overclocked.
Red Dead Redemption 2
In Red Dead Redemption 2 we run the game in the Vulkan API. We set all the in-game options up to “Ultra” or the highest value, except for MSAA. We use the built-in benchmark for testing.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is also demanding at 1440p. The MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X at the highest in-game settings does a great job though. It provides right at 60FPS gameplay at 1440p, making a good experience. It’s 6% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, though the RTX 3070 is 7% faster. When we overclock the MSI RX 6700 XT GAMING X performance increases by 6%. This puts its performance equal to that of the GeForce RTX 3070 once it is overclocked.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
In Wolfenstein Youngblood the game runs in the Vulkan API. We set the graphics option to “Mein Leben!” for the highest settings. We use the built-in benchmark of Riverside for testing.
In Wolfenstein Youngblood framerates are extremely high at 1440p. The MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X pulls in 172FPS, though the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti beats it in performance by 4%. When we overclock the MSI RX 6700 XT GAMING X performance increases by 6%. This puts it under the RTX 3070, which is 13% faster.
