Power and Temperature

To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data.  We use GPUz sensor data to record the results.  We report on the GPUz sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data.

MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X GPU Chip Power Draw Graph

Looking at GPUz Sensor Data for GPU Chip Power Draw we find the most efficient video card is the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE followed by the GeForce RTX 3070 FE.  The MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X uses about 9W more than a reference AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT.  This is due to the game clock and boost clock being set higher.  When we overclock the video card power increases by 3% on the GPU Chip.

We cannot show board power sadly, as GPUz doesn’t report that figure for AMD GPUs.  The important takeaway here is that the MSI RX 6700 XT GAMING X will show a bit higher power usage than a reference AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT video card.  When you overclock it, power will also go up, and the RTX 3060 Ti and even RTX 3070 are more efficient on power usage.

MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X Temperature Graph

Temperature is well maintained on the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X.  The reference AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT hit a GPU temp of 75c and was the hottest here.  The MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X with its TWIN FROZR 8 cooling solution only hit 68c.  When we overclocked it with near 100% fan speed the temp was only 55c.  The MSI TWIN FROZR 8 cooling solution is robust, and works great, keeping the video card well cooled.  We were not held back by the temperature at all with overclocking.  100% fan speed was also not loud.  Though we did not need to maintain 100% fan speed for the overclock, leaving it on automatic also worked just fine.
