Sony Interactive Entertainment announced today that its next-generation PlayStation 5 game console has already surpassed 10 million units sold since its release on November 12, 2020, cementing its position as the fastest selling system in the company’s history. While most of the gloating for this incredible milestone is largely reserved for console owners, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan ended up throwing a bone to PC gamers in an interview with Famitsu regarding the sales achievement, noting that Sony is very happy with the performance of its Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone PC ports and will continue to release more first-party titles on the powerful and lucrative platform. As suspected, Ryan pointed out that Sony will be leveraging the talents of its latest acquisition, Nixxes Software, to bring more blockbuster PlayStation titles to the PC. Nixxes is an industry-leading studio based in the Netherlands that’s worked on the PC ports of many popular games such as Square Enix’s Tomb Raider reboots and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

“I can’t express enough the deep gratitude we feel for our passionate community of PlayStation fans who have embraced PS5, and the world-class development and publishing partners who bring such incredible gaming experiences to our platforms,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply. I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.”
