Gameplay Performance

We are going to focus on 1440p gameplay performance with the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G video card. We will test Ray Tracing and DLSS in the games that support it, and show it on the graphs under each relevant game. For video card comparison we are using an AMD Radeon RX 6800 which has an MSRP of $579 and is the closest competition by MSRP to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti at $599 MSRP.

Metro Exodus Enhanced

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Metro Exodus Enhanced DLSS Graph

Metro Exodus Enhanced is very demanding at 1440p with the highest game settings and Ray Tracing. The MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X reaches 45FPS, which is not really very enjoyable in the game. Overclocking the video card improves performance by 8%, but it’s still not quite enough to really enjoy the game. That is until we turn on DLSS. DLSS is the game-changer, it makes the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X very playable, and overclocking makes it even better. With DLSS performance is playable at 62FPS, and overclocking improves performance 7% and rises above 65FPS. The game is very enjoyable now at maximum game settings at 1440p. Compared to the Radeon RX 6800, the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X is 19% faster, and the RX 6800 can only lower game settings at 1440p to make it playable.

Cyberpunk 2077

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Cyberpunk 2077 DLSS Graph

In Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p and “Ultra” settings, the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X is right on the border of being playable. Overclocking helps, it brings performance up 7%. Technically the AMD Radeon RX 6800 is actually faster than the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X at 1440p “Ultra” in this game by 6%, which is nice. The MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X can match it, but it has to be overclocked. The MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X has DLSS available in this game. When we turn on DLSS on the highest quality level it’s another game-changer. Now the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X is playable above 70FPS, and overclocking only improves that more.

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing DLSS Graph

Turning on Ray Tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p and “Ultra” settings is a demanding task. We have the lowest mode enabled above, with Ray Tracing at “Medium” quality. Turning it on renders the game unplayable on both video cards, without DLSS. Overclocking does not make the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X playable, and the Radeon RX 6800 is worse off. However, once again, the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X has DLSS available in this game. When we turn that on the game suddenly becomes very playable near 60FPS without overclocking. Overclocking takes it right at 60FPS. This makes the game very playable, but DLSS will be required just to get Medium Ray Tracing at 1440p on the RTX 3070 Ti in this game.

Godfall

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Godfall Graph

In Godfall we are running the game at 1440p with the highest “Epic” quality in the game. This game is very playable on the Radeon RX 6800 and MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X video card. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 is faster in this game, it’s a pretty decent 10% faster than the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X. Overclocking the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X helps performance by 8%. However, the Radeon RX 6800 is still beating the overclocked MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X in this game.

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Godfall Ray Tracing FSR Graph

In the graph above we have now turned on Ray Tracing in this game to the highest quality. Ray Tracing is not extremely demanding in this game, it’s rather easy on performance, and so the game is playable on both video cards at 1440p with it. Technically the Radeon RX 6800 is just slightly faster than the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X, realistically an average of just 1FPS. However, overclock the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIMN X, and performance increases slightly and is now faster.

This game also supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution or FSR, and it runs on both video cards. FSR helps improve performance on both video cards rather well. The same performance pattern is repeated with it enabled. The RX 6800 is faster than the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X until we overclock it, then the overclocked RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X is faster.

Dirt 5

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Dirt 5 Graph

In Dirt 5 we are running the game at 1440p with the highest “Ultra High” graphics setting. This game is very playable on both video cards. Once again we see the AMD Radeon RX 6800 is technically just a tad faster than the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X, but still very close. Once we overclock it performance increases by 7% and now it’s 5% faster than the Radeon RX 6800.

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Dirt 5 Ray Tracing Graph

Now in Dirt 5, we have enabled Ray Tracing above. This is another game that Ray Tracing is not very demanding, therefore the game is very playable on both video cards at 1440p with Ray Tracing. With Ray Tracing enabled we still find the Radeon RX 6800 faster than the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X, by 3%. When we overclock the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X performance increases by 7% and the MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X is now faster than the Radeon RX 6800 by 4%.
