Overclocking MSI RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X

To overclock the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G video card, we are using the manufacturer-provided overclocking software.  In this case, it is MSI Afterburner.

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X 8G Overclock MSI Afterburner

In MSI Afterburner we can increase the Power Limit on this video card by just 6% taking it from 100% to 106%.  This gives us a little headroom, but not much.  When we overclocked the Founders Edition, we could take it up by 10%, but of course, the MSI video card most likely runs with higher power table limits already for the factory overclock to work.  Still, a nice 10% bump would have been nice.  Otherwise, we could increase the fan speed as needed and we had control over Core Voltage.   In the end, we left Voltage alone, and let GPU Boost manage it.

The highest overclock we found on this video card was with the Core Clock up at +160.  This puts the new “Boost” clock at 2020MHz versus the default 1860MHz.  In addition, we managed to push the memory up to +1000 which sets it at 1313MHz (21GHz) versus the default 1188MHz (19GHz.)  This pushes the memory bandwidth up to 672GB/s versus the default 608GB/s.

This is a higher overclock on both GPU and memory than we experienced with the Founders Edition video card.  On that card memory overclock was 20GHz and GPU was at +130 of its 1770MHz GPU Boost.

In the graph above you can see that this overclock is well exceeding the default clock speed. At default, the clock speed settled around 1935MHz. With this overclock the new clock speed starts out high at 2130MHz but then settles over time down to around 2115MHz. At 2115MHz this overclock is roughly 180MHz higher than the default, or a 9% overclock, which is respectable. Also, consider the reference spec is 1770MHz, and on our Founders Edition, it operated at 1875MHz. Therefore, this overclock of 2115MHz is 240MHz higher or 13% over a default stock Founders Edition.

Our Founders Edition overclocked to 2055MHz. Therefore, the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti SUPRIM X overclocks higher at 2115MHz, an increase of 60MHz or 3% higher than the Founders Edition overclock. Consider that the MSI video card doesn’t need the 100% fan speed we had applied, so it can run at a higher clock, much quieter than the Founders Edition for prolonged amounts of time. We really are pushing the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti farther with the MSI card, to its maximum potential.
