Conclusion

Today we took a look at Glorious’ latest ultralight wireless gaming mouse, the Model O- Wireless. The Model O- Wireless has an MSRP of $79.99, putting it on par with entry-level name-brand mice while significantly undercutting the more expensive options from Logitech and Razor that are oriented toward competitive gaming.

Appropriately sized PTFE feet, crisp mechanical switches in a familiarly shaped shell all in an ultralight body with no rattle and no give help the Glorious Model O- Wireless hit the right spot in terms of price to performance. On the other hand, the lack of a wireless or docked charging option does detract somewhat from the convenience offered elsewhere.

FPS Gaming

Styling themselves after the PC Gaming Race meme, beard and flowing hair included, FPS gaming is a central focus of Glorious’ products. The Model O- Wireless represents a refinement of their vision for gaming mice and squarely hits the mark in all aspects except one – the occasionally flaky right trigger can definitely disturb ones flow if it needs to be held down.

Now, on to that flaky trigger – we did contact Glorious for help, and they replied promptly. Their solution was to perform a hardware reset on the mouse by holding down the left, right, and middle buttons for three seconds. This button combination induces a hardware reset, after which we were instructed to retry the firmware update. This time the update worked, and while there’s still no indication of what firmware version was loaded, the issue hasn’t reappeared.

General Use

When rating a gaming mouse for desktop use outside of gaming, one of the main things to note is not how good a mouse is for spreadsheets and the like – but whether or not a focus on gaming performance inhibits desktop use.

With the typical six-button layout common to most gaming mouse entries, the Glorious O- Wireless doesn’t stand out as being overly more or less suited for desktop work than the typical Dell, HP, or Lenovo OEM mouse, which makes it a perfect wireless gaming mouse upgrade for those used to such mice, while not providing any extra functionality or control in the form of additional buttons or more weight.

Wireless Use

Normally wireless performance is a highlight of a wireless mouse unless it’s using Bluetooth of course. Glorious has implemented a proprietary 2.4GHz wireless link that requires the use of its USB dongle. This is in line with nearly all manufacturers of wireless gaming peripherals, as Bluetooth neither supports the responsiveness nor the signal strength required.

We can report that we did not encounter any issues with the wireless functionality on the Glorious Model O- Wireless. Aside from a momentary wakeup period, the mouse performed flawlessly, which really has become the expectation given just how good non-Bluetooth wireless technology has become.

Battery life was also excellent, lasting through a week’s worth of use, though there are two things worth keeping in mind. First, if you turn on any lighting you should expect the battery to drain within a few days, perhaps less than one if you turn the wireless lighting to 100% and use the mouse continuously. This does dampen the utility of the lighting a bit.

Second, like most wireless gaming mice, the Glorious Core application must be opened to check the battery level. While the mouse does have a built-in lighting scheme to notify the user when the battery has reached a critically low charge level, we’d really like to see more wireless gaming peripherals reporting their charge level to the operating system, something Logitech seems to have had figured out for years.

Final Points

At $79.99, the Glorious Model O- Wireless presents a good value for a wireless gaming mouse and one that’s definitely worth a look. It has everything you need to fit it to your liking through the software as well as through customization options on Glorious’ site.

If you are looking for a wireless gaming mouse, Glorious has you covered with their Model O- wireless. A great shape with top-notch buttons and sensor along with a lag-free wireless experience earn the Model O- our silver award.
