In the first graph, we are looking at PCMark 10 standard benchmark test, which is an overall system test. PCMark 10 runs a gauntlet of different office, content creation, and desktop workloads. Starting in PCMark 10 with the standard benchmark naturally the Ryzen 7 5800X is faster than the 5700G, we expected this, but what we wanted to know is how close are they. The Ryzen 7 5700G is actually within just 8% of the performance of the Ryzen 7 5800X in a system-wide benchmark like this. This is not far off from 5800X performance. The Ryzen 7 5700G is also definitely faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X by 6% in this overall system test. So that gives us a good idea of where the 5700G sits in terms of overall system performance, but let’s look at things a little closer as we go on.

PCMark Application Benchmark

In this graph, we are looking at PCMark 10’s Applications Benchmark.  This test is very specific, it tests the performance of Microsoft Office, using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and even Edge. We are using Microsoft Office 2021 for these tests. This graph shows what is more indicative when it comes to Microsoft Office performance on the desktop, something a lot of people use. Here the Ryzen 7 5700G is performing 8% faster in MS Office compared to the Ryzen 7 3700X, so it is actually an upgrade in performance thanks to Zen 3. Compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X it’s within 10% performance of it. So the 5800X is ultimately faster, and that is large part due to the higher cache and clock speed, but the 5700G is faster than the 3700X. It’s not too far off from the 5800X.

CPU Profile

Forgive the graphs, we don’t have the 3700X for comparison here, but we can look at the 5800X in comparison to see how close the 5700G is to it with its cut-back specs. Remember both CPUs use Zen 3. We are using 3DMark Professional’s CPU Profile test. This test specifically tests CPUs and reports an overall score, it tests various thread counts. We are going to report on the “Max Threads” and “1-Thread” results only. Both CPUs are 8 core/16 thread CPUs, but due to the higher cache and clock speed, the Ryzen 7 5800X is 16% faster in multi-thread performance. The 5700G is 14% slower. That shows just how much more cache and clock speed can make even on the same architecture.

In this test above we are testing just a single thread of performance, this really shows how good single-thread performance differs. In single-thread IPC they are much closer, the main difference affecting the two is clock speed here. The 5800X is only 5% faster on single-thread performance, so if you are doing single-core/thread workloads the two CPUs are very close to each other on performance. The 5700G is very competitive for the price.

Geekbench 5

Next up we have the latest version of Geekbench 5.  This benchmark tests overall CPU performance and can show us a result in both multi-core and single-core performance. In Geekbench 5 the Ryzen 7 5700G is faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X but not as large as PCMark indicated. Here it is just 3% faster in multi-core performance. In Geekbench it indicates the 5800X has a larger advantage over the 5700G by 15%.

Now when talking again about single-thread, single-core performance, the Ryzen 7 5700G really shines. It’s much closer to the performance of the 5800X here. So compared to the 3700X the 5700G is a very large 19% faster in single-thread IPC performance! That’s huge. Compared to the 5800X the 5700G is only 8% slower than the 5800X, which is very close once again for single-core IPC performance.

PassMark Performance Test

PassMark’s PerformanceTest CPU Mark benchmark tests various CPU workloads, including encryption. In PassMark the Ryzen 7 5700G is 6% faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X, and 15% slower than the 5800X.
