Gaming Performance

Now we come to the interesting testing we are sure you all can’t wait for, we were also anxious to get to this part and see how it all ends up for gaming performance. In order to test this properly, really get a good feel for it, and cover all the bases for the big picture, we decided to test 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions when possible. Forgive us, as some of the graphs do not have 3700X performance for comparison. For testing, we are using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition video card.

Cyberpunk 2077

In Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p with “Ultra” performance, there is a definite performance difference. The last generation Ryzen 7 3700X does lag behind the newer Zen 3 architectures. The Ryzen 7 5700G is 7% faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X at 1080p! The generational change has made a difference. The performance is very close to the 5800X, only 1% slower, so it’s practically the same performance!

At 4K all the CPUs are a wash, as we are completely GPU bound here. Even still, there is a slight deviation with the 3700X being the “slowest” and the 5700G being closer to the 5800X in performance, that scaling even shows through at 4K.

Battlefield 2042

In Battlefield 2042 at 1080p and “Ultra” settings, we find a very big difference in performance based on CPUs. This has transpired with other CPUs we’ve tested as well. This game seems to be sensitive to CPU performance at 1080p and 1440p. The Ryzen 7 5800X is clearly a lot faster, by 20% compared to the Ryzen 7 5700G. The 5700G is 17% slower. The extra cache and clock speed does benefit the 5800X here in this game, even though both CPUs are based on the same architecture. We’d imagine the 3700X would be even slower than the 5700G.

At 1440p the distance lessens but still exists. The Ryzen 7 5800X is 9% faster. The 5700G is 8% slower. That’s pretty big for 1440p resolution.

Even at 4K, there is a difference. The 5800X is 7% faster, the 5700G is 7% slower.

Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 is another game that is sensitive to CPU performance. At 1080p even with the Graphics Preset on “Ultra” and HD Textures ON the Ryzen 7 5800X is 13% faster. The 5700G is 12% slower.

There is also a difference at 1440p. The 5800X is 11% faster and the 5700G is 10% slower.

Even at 4K the 5800X is 4% faster and the 5700G 4% slower.

What it looks like so far is that the higher L2 cache and clock speed of the 5800X does make a difference in gaming performance.
