Rendering Performance

We will now take a look at how rendering performance compares.

Cinebench R23

All three CPUs have the same 8 core/16 thread count, so the differences are in architecture, clock speed, and cache capacity. The Ryzen 7 5700G is 10% faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X. So despite having less cache, and clock speed, the newer Zen 3 architecture helps it in Cinebench. It’s 12% slower than the Ryzen 7 5800X, so the 5800X does have a leg up, but it’s not too far behind.

What is really impressive is how close the Ryzen 7 5700G is in single-core performance to the Ryzen 7 5800X. It’s only behind by 7%. Compared to the 3700X the 5700G is 14% faster, so it’s much faster and wider a margin compared to the 3700X. Zen 3 is helping a lot here for single-core IPC improvement from the 3700X.

Note that we are using the latest Blender Benchmark 3.0 that was just released, and as such we do not have Ryzen 7 3700X results to compare with on our graphs. We do, however, have Ryzen 7 5800X and so we can see how close the two are when doing Blender rendering. Note also that the results in this new benchmark version are shown in “Samples Per Minute” and now the higher the number, the better. Using Blender 3.0.1 in the “monster” scene the Ryzen 7 5700G is only 10% slower than the Ryzen 7 5800X. This puts the two CPUs fairly close to each other on performance.

In “junkshop” the Ryzen 7 5700G is just 9% slower, so the two are very close.

In “classroom” the Ryzen 7 5700G is 11% slower than the Ryzen 7 5800X. Therefore, the 5800X is definitely faster, but it’s not massively faster, the 5700G keeps up pretty well, just lagging behind slightly.

V-Ray 5 Benchmark

In V-Ray 5 the Ryzen 7 5700G is 13% faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X. It’s 13% slower than the 5800X, it seems to sit right in the middle here.

HandBrake

Again, all three CPUs have the same 8 core/16 threads, but the 5700G has the Zen 3 architecture. This only causes a slight advantage compared to the 3700X here, the 3700X does have a lower clock speed, but more cache. The 5800X is much improved with its higher clock speed and larger cache. Basically, the 5700G is about on par with 3700X for video transcoding, but the 5800X would provide an improvement.
