20th Century Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water, the long-awaited sequel to one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The teaser suggests that James Cameron has outdone himself again, having created a newer, wetter version of Pandora that’s brought to life with what looks to be stunning CG and flawless, breathtaking motion capture. Among the cast are Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, who return as Jake and Neytiri, respectively, and, very surprisingly, Stephen Lang, who’s Colonel Quaritch has seemingly managed to survive multiple arrows to the chest. Avatar: The Way of Water will finally hit theaters on December 16, 2022—13 exhausting years after the premiere of the 2009 original that attempted to popularize 3D movies.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.
