Conclusion

In May of 2022, AMD launched three new Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, refreshing the lineup for the spring of this year. The Radeon RX 6750 XT has a $549 MSRP from AMD, and this is interesting because today the video card can actually be purchased near MSRP. In our SAPPHIRE NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT review we looked at how that differs from the Radeon RX 6700 XT, and what the faster GPU clock speed and memory clock speed do for the GPU.

Due to the pricing of today’s hardware, the GeForce RTX 3070, which is the closest competitor from NVIDIA, is still at least $40-50 (at the least) more, and potentially much more. Where it should actually be cheaper, right now, it’s not. So it was absolutely necessary to compare the two video cards head-to-head to find out what’s the best value. In addition, it was also important to find out what the next step up, the Radeon RX 6800 has over the Radeon RX 6750 XT for $100 more.

Therefore, in this “versus” review today, we compared the SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6750 XT vs GeForce RTX 3070 vs Radeon RX 6800 performance review. Though our card is a factory overclocked card (2623MHz Boost on the SAPPHIRE NITRO+ versus 2600MHz Boost for the reference clocked 6750 XT), this is a small factory overclock and is not significantly faster than the reference clocked Radeon RX 6750 XT, and therefore represents performance very close.

Performance

Starting with Dying Light 2 the new Radeon RX 6750 XT was about 5% faster than the GeForce RTX 3070. They were close, but technically the Radeon RX 6750 XT was slightly faster, and with FSR the performance was faster still. The Radeon RX 6800 ended up being 19% faster than the Radeon RX 6750 XT, so the next step up does get you significantly more performance than both.

In Rainbow Six Extraction the GeForce RTX 3070 was faster than the Radeon RX 6750 XT by a small 3%, so both were practically the same experience. The Radeon RX 6800 offered about 17% more performance, being more significant than both. In Forza Horizon 5 the Radeon RX 6750 XT was 14% faster than the GeForce RTX 3070, which was pretty significantly faster. The Radeon RX 6800 was 8% faster than the Radeon RX 6750 XT. In Far Cry 6 the Radeon RX 6750 XT and GeForce RTX 3070 were neck-and-neck, with the exact same gameplay performance. The Radeon RX 6800 was 11% faster than the RX 6750 XT.

In Cyberpunk 2077 the GeForce RTX 3070 was 6% faster than the Radeon RX 6750 XT, but with FSR the performance was actually higher than DLSS. The Radeon RX 6800 offered a much better experience and was 24% faster than the Radeon RX 6750 XT. In Flight Sim 2020 the Radeon RX 6750 XT and 6800 were around the same, while the RTX 3070 was faster. Finally, in Watch Dogs Legion the Radeon RX 6750 XT was faster than the RTX 3070 by 5% and the RX 6800 was faster than the RX 6750 XT by 14%.

When it comes to Ray Tracing, except for Far Cry 6, the GeForce RTX 3070 offered better Ray Tracing performance. The GeForce RTX 3070 was even faster than the Radeon RX 6800 when it comes to Ray Tracing, though they were both close in Watch Dogs Legion and Metro Exodus Enhanced. Far Cry 6 was an exception, where the Radeon RX 6800 was the fastest, due to VRAM bottlenecks on the RTX 3070. Compared to the Radeon RX 6750 XT though, the RTX 3070 had a big leg up on Ray Tracing performance throughout.

Final Points

It is clear from these benchmarks that the new Radeon RX 6750 XT is very competitive with the GeForce RTX 3070. In most gaming performance the Radeon RX 6750 XT will beat the performance of the GeForce RTX 3070 and allow a better gameplay experience with better performance, especially in demanding games and where VRAM capacity matters. In standard, rasterized performance, the Radeon RX 6750 XT is what AMD needed to overtake the RTX 3070, and it does indeed do that.

If pricing was in the normal range, technically the RTX 3070 would be priced lower, but, we are in the weird times we are in, and right now it is the Radeon RX 6750 XT that is available at MSRP, while the RTX 3070 is the one at a higher price. With this price discrepancy, the Radeon RX 6750 XT is the clear winner in terms of value, offering better performance, at a lower price. Just don’t overspend buying one. This is the true definition of value, lower price, and better performance.

Even if both were exactly the same price, the Radeon RX 6750 XT would still be faster. The exception is Ray Tracing. If you must play with Ray Tracing, the GeForce RTX 3070 will clearly have the advantage and be the one for you. Otherwise though, at 1440p rasterized performance, the Radeon RX 6750 XT is probably the way to go right now in this price range.

Now, what about the Radeon RX 6800? Well, it’s about $100 more, and actually, it provides a much better gameplay experience, with usable Ray Tracing. If you can splurge an extra $100, the Radeon RX 6800 is going to provide between 15-20% better performance over the Radeon RX 6750 XT, so that is what you can expect from it if you need more performance and are looking for the next step up. Happy Gaming.
