Conclusion

Today we reviewed the Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6200MHz Memory Kit and compared it to a couple of other flavors of DDR5 to see how Viper’s premier DDR5 memory kit would perform. The kit includes 2x16GB DDR5-6200MHz sticks with an XMP profile set to 40-40-40-76 timings at 1.35V.

The memory kit features individually controllable RGB lighting to sync it with your tricked-out rig so it can look great during your long gaming sessions (Ed: or LAN parties, people still have those, right?).

Stability and Performance Summary

Speaking first about stability, the Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6200MHz Memory Kit was rock solid on the test bench and did not give us a single flipped bit of trouble when running it at its properly validated speeds on our MSI MEG Z690 UNIFY platform. This is noteworthy to us as with any new memory standard, the sticks that push the high end of what is possible on new silicon often end up falling on their face for a couple of iterations until they get it right. The Viper kit did just that (Ed: Isn’t that a baseline expectation though?).

Moving on to performance, the Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6200MHz Memory Kit performed generally better than the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 5600MHz C36 memory that we compared it to as well as itself when clocked down to baseline 4800MHz speeds. There were a few interesting errata in the test results – for the most part, latency configuration did not appear to make much of a performance difference, but sheer transfer speed did.

However, even with a massive difference in total memory bandwidth, most of the actual performance differences, especially in gaming, were academic in nature. A couple of FPS here and there out of hundreds for a given benchmark is certainly a victory, but how much of a premium should it be worth to you?

Final Points

Pulling it all together, with the Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6200MHz Memory Kit that we tested today, we found that it performed quite well, was very stable, and added some RGB flair to our test bench. Looking at pricing when it’s available in e-tail, we expect it to be in the $260 ballpark which may feel a bit high, it’s $30 cheaper than the Corsair DOMINATOR 5600MHz C36 memory that we compared it to, which clocks in at $290 in e-tail.

That being said, the Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6200MHz Memory Kit is a great performer and value for its current price and it would make a great addition to your Alder Lake based gaming rig.
