Gameplay Performance at 1440p
We feel it is important to also look at the 1440p performance on the Radeon RX 7900 XT because quite frankly, this resolution is going to be a lot better in demanding games and better in Ray Tracing with it. On this page, we will look at 1440p raster gameplay performance. On the next page, we will look at 1440p with Ray Tracing performance. For video card comparisons we are using an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.0
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.0 was released on October 27, 2022, on the PC and uses the IW 9.0 gaming engine. The game supports all upscaling methods, including NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Image Scaling, AMD FSR 1.0, AMD Fidelity FX CAS, and Intel XeSS. We use the highest quality option of each. We customize every graphics setting to the maximum value for the best image quality and enable everything. We use the built-in benchmark.
At 1440p Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.0 with the highest in-game settings performs exceptionally well on the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT. In fact, it’s 14% faster than the more expensive GeForce RTX 4080. These framerates will easily allow 144Hz+ gaming at 1440p on the Radeon RX 7900 XT. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 39% faster and compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 FE it is 76% faster, so that is a big uplift if you are coming from an RTX 3080.
F1 2022
F1 2022 was released on June 28th, 2022 on the PC and uses Codemasters Ego engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, AMD FidelityFX, and FSR. We are going to run the game with the highest quality settings of “Ultra High” and TAA+FidelityFX. We will enable DLSS and FSR as needed at the Quality setting for both. We will utilize the built-in benchmark in the Imola track, in dry conditions with a far-chasing cam.
In F1 2022 at 1440p and the highest in-game settings, the Radeon RX 7900 XT provides a phenomenally high 250FPS of smooth gameplay. Performance seems to be right on par with GeForce RTX 4080 performance at 1440p, again the RTX 4080 is more expensive. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is though only 12% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT at this resolution, which isn’t a whole lot over the previous generation at this lower resolution. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 the 7900 XT is 31% faster.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2. We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing. We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute. For our benchmark, we are using a custom manual run-through at the end of the game hopping between rooftops, as well as free-roaming on the ground city level, as well as a forested area, in the daylight.
There are two noteworthy things here in Dying Light 2 at 1440p and the highest settings. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is more than playable, allowing high framerates at 124FPS, no doubt it is an exceptional gameplay experience. The other fact though is that it seems it is closer to GeForce RTX 3080 Ti/3090 performance than it is to GeForce RTX 4080 performance. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is 12% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090, but it is 15% slower than the GeForce RTX 4080. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the Radeon RX 7900 XT is only 22% faster, the Radeon RX 6900 XT was also playable. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 26% faster.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 was released in October of 2021 and uses the Dunia Engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and turned on. We utilize the “Ultra” graphics preset which sets all options to the highest game settings. This game supports FSR upscaling.
In Far Cry 6 the Radeon RX 7900 XT is the fastest video card, beating the GeForce RTX 4080 by 10%. At 168FPS performance is super smooth. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 23% faster and compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 38% faster.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.61 and perform a long manual run-through driving in the game’s open world. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings, mainly “Ultra”. This game supports DLSS and FSR.
In Cyberpunk 2077 the Radeon RX 7900 XT can easily play this game at “Ultra” settings at over 100FPS. This time, performance is closer to the GeForce RTX 4080, but the RTX 4080 is still beating it. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is only 9% slower than the GeForce RTX 4080 and it is $300 cheaper. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 29% faster than the previous generation. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 34% faster.
Watch Dogs Legion
Watch Dogs Legion was released on the PC in October of 2020 and uses the Disrupt game engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and enabled for testing. We use the built-in graphics preset of “Ultra” for testing. This game supports DLSS upscaling.
Watch Dogs Legion is very playable at 1440p and “Ultra” settings at 139FPS on the Radeon RX 7900 XT. This performance matches the same performance as the more expensive GeForce RTX 4080 as well. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is 25% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT and 45% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080.
