GOG launched its 2022 Winter Sale today with more than 4,500 deals at up to 90% off, and with it comes a freebie in the form of Ghost of a Tale, an action RPG that stars a mouse named Tilo who must adventure and explore the secrets of a medieval location dubbed Dwindling Heights Keep.

“You’ll be able to explore the secrets of Dwindling Heights Keep and navigate its dangers,” reads a description for the game. “Tilo is not much of a fighter, so stealth and nimbleness are your allies when confronted with enemies twice your size. Talk to the characters you meet and leave no stone unturned in your quest to find Merra, your true love…”

Ghost of a Tale is available to claim from GOG until December 15, 2022.

Ghost of a Tale was released on March 13, 2018, by SeithCG, which describes itself as a very small team:

Lionel “Seith” Gallat does 90% of the art, design and coding. Paul Gardner is the game’s writer and an experienced game designer. Cyrille Paulhiac does coding and develops tools. Jeremiah Pena is the game’s composer, while Nicolas Titeux is responsible for sound design.

Despite that, Ghost of the Tale has managed to garner positive reviews, with some calling it one of the best games that was released in 2018.

Ghost of a Tale is just one out of many games that star an animal protagonist.

One of the more recent ones include Stray, a game from BlueTwelve that stars a stray cat who must reunite with their family, available on PS4, PS5, and PC.

Squirrel with a Gun is another title that’s in development, being built on Unreal Engine 5.
