God of War Ragnarök players who have completed the game will have at least one big reason to revisit Kratos and Atreus’ latest adventure next year, according to a tweet from the official Santa Monica Studio account today that can confirm New Game Plus mode is headed to the acclaimed action-adventure game in spring 2023, something that should allow players to begin with all of the weapons and armor that they gained during their initial journey, including fully upgraded favorites like the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, and Draupnir Spear.

“We know many of you have been asking, so we’re happy to confirm that New Game Plus will be coming to #GodofWarRagnarok in Spring 2023,” the studio tweeted before promising that it’ll have more details to share regarding the update once it gets closer to its release.

God of War Ragnarök has received a solid level of support from Santa Monica Studio since its release on November 9, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, including a recent update that enabled Photo Mode in the game, allowing players to snap shots across the Nine Realms, including Midgard, Asgard, and Jötunheim, home of the Giants.

“By enabling a set of in-game tools that mimic the use of a real-world camera, the photo mode can be used to capture original and creative shots of Kratos and Atreus’ journey throughout the Nine Realms,” wrote Grace Orlady, Lead Community Manager at Santa Monica Studio, in a post for the PlayStation Blog yesterday that includes Photo Mode tips from community virtual photographers.

According to a tweet from PlayStation dated November 23, 2022, God of War Ragnarök is the fastest-selling first-party launch game in PlayStation history, with over 5.1 million copies sold since its debut week.

God of War Ragnarök was also one of the biggest winners at The Game Awards 2022, having won Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Action/Adventure, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Performance, the latter of which was given to Christopher Judge, the voice actor behind Kratos.

A PC version of God of War Ragnarök is expected to be announced by PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio in a few years.
