Synthetic Storage Benchmarks

PCMark 10

We are using PCMark 10’s Full System Drive Storage Benchmark. It outputs an overall score (higher is better) that is derived from the Bandwidth (higher is better) as well as access time (lower is better) results.

Acer Predator 1TB Gen4 x4 M.2 SSD PCMark 10 Storage Full System Drive Benchmark Graph

In PCMark 10’s full storage system drive benchmark, the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD performs very well at 3318 in the overall score. At this performance, it’s even faster than the previous champion, the ADATA LEGEND 960 SSD, and it even beats out the Acer Predator GM7000. Now, the reason for this is mostly due to the very fast access time on the Acer Predator GM7. With Host Memory Buffer technology and fast 2400MT/s NAND flash, it has a very fast access time, which bumps this score up quite a bit. This SSD is starting off in a good place, and with this trace workload, the SSD is performing strongly considering it is DRAM-less.

Acer Predator 1TB Gen4 x4 M.2 SSD PCMark 10 Storage Full System Drive Benchmark Average Access Time Graph

This graph shows why the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD is performing so well in PCMark 10’s full system storage testing. The average access time is all the way down at 50ns on this SSd, rivaling the ADATA LEGEND 960, and the Acer Predator GM7000 by 4ns. This low latency and access time make for a very fast accessible SSD.

Acer Predator 1TB Gen4 x4 M.2 SSD PCMark 10 Storage Quick System Drive Benchmark Graph

In the above graph, we are testing PCMark 10’s Quick Storage Benchmark, which utilizes a lighter workload of traces meant for smaller drives, it provides an interesting contrast to the wide-ranging test of the full benchmark above. In this test, which is utilizing lighter workloads, the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD doesn’t fair as well. While the access time is excellent, for smaller workload traces the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD trails all SSDs here, and is 25% under the Acer Predator GM7000, which had the best performance in these workloads.

PassMark PerformanceTEST

We are using PassMark’s PerformanceTEST Disk Mark benchmark only. This test benchmarks Disk Sequential Read, Disk Sequential Write, IOPS 32KQD20, IOPS 4KQD1 tests and outputs an overall score (higher is better.)

Acer Predator 1TB Gen4 x4 M.2 SSD PassMark PerformanceTEST Disk Mark Graph

In PassMark’s PerformanceTEST Disk Mark benchmark, the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD actually performs better than the Acer Predator GM7000 by 12%. For some reason, the GM7000 performed poorly in this test, while the SSD is certainly not a poor-performing SSD, here the GM7 actually performs above it. It still sits underneath the other SSDs but seems to be on par with the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 and close to the ADATA LEGEND 960.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the Acer Predator 1TB PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD, manufactured by BIWIN, this DRAM-less SSD packs a punch in performance, maintaining most of the performance of the Acer Predator GM7000, but for a very attractive cost-effective price. Supporting HMB, an SLC cache, a Maxio controller, and 3D NAND Flash at 2400MT/s, this SSD provides excellent access time and latency. It is also power efficient, and runs cool, making it the perfect SSD for laptops, and providing a value-priced SSD for desktops.
