DiskBench
With DiskBench we place a 50GB single file onto the test drive. We copy this file from the test drive to a new folder on the test drive, volume to volume. This tests the performance of the drive’s ability to copy a single large file from itself to itself as if you were copying files on the same drive, it replicates this drive being your primary and only drive. Results are in duration Seconds, lower is better.
Copying a file from itself to itself, it took a 50GB file 25.8 seconds to complete the task. This is faster than the ADATA LEGEND 960 and on par with the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400. This is right under the Acer Predator GM7, which did it 3 seconds faster. This is right under the middle-of-the-road on file copy performance.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Benchmark
The Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Benchmark is a unique game benchmark that allows us to objectively calculate the load times of different game scenes loading on the SSD. This benchmark runs multiple scenes that it benchmarks, it also keeps track of the scene load times for each scene and reports a duration, in addition, it provides an overall average duration of all the scenes together. This provides consistency in testing. We report the overall average scene load time of all the scenes in seconds, lower is better.
In Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Benchmark, the average load time of all scenes was at 10.6 seconds. This was the highest out of all the other SSDs, but right under the GM7000 where it was predicted to be. Note that re-running this benchmark, after the scenes were cached, went down to 10.2 seconds.
ATTO
In throughput testing according to ATTO disk benchmark, the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD performs under the Acer Predator GM7000 as expected, but not massively underperformance. It’s only 50MB/s slower on read, and 600MB/s slower on write. It’s faster than the CORSAIR Force MP600, MSI SPATIUM M470, and PATRIOT VIPER VPR400. The read speeds are very high and maintain consistent performance, the write speeds are a bit under, but better than some SSDs on this graph by a lot. Consistency of performance in file sizes is good across this SSD, as the screenshot demonstrates.
SPECworkstation 3.1
We are using SPECworkstation 3.1 and specifically the WPCstorage test. “The storage workload is based on storage transaction traces from a wide variety of professional applications engaged in real work.” It includes media and entertainment, product development, life sciences, energy, and general operations. Each program receives a score, and they are averaged together for an overall score, higher is better.
In SPECworkstation 3.1 WPCstorage benchmark, the score for the Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD is at 3.14, which is the lowest-performing SSD for workstation applications. This sits 56% below the Acer Predator GM7000, which had the highest and best workstation application performance we’ve ever seen to date. This just means, the Acer Predator GM7 is not the SSD if you are working in a workstation environment for dedicated applications that demand those workloads, this is very much a desktop or laptop consumer-focused SSD.
