Gameplay Performance at 1080p

The ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 7600 OC Edition is being tested at 1080p (1920×1080) resolution using our new gaming suite. We have added newer games that are quite graphically challenging and offer even more Ray Tracing options plus kept a couple of oldies that are still gold standards for performance. Here we will be using FSR in all the games. All the graphics settings in this suite were set as high as the game allows.

Our comparison today is the Made By AMD Radeon RX 7600. This is going to allow us to go toe to toe with the lower-priced and reference-clocked MBA RX 7600 and look for a reason to pay $70 more.

Returnal

Returnal was launched on the PC in February of 2023 and is based on Unreal Engine 4. The game supports real-time ray tracing effects, particle systems, and volumetric rendering. We utilize the graphics preset to set EPIC graphics settings with an unlocked framerate, and everything is enabled. For ray tracing tests we have enabled Ray Traced Shadows and Reflections at EPIC settings. We use the built-in benchmark.

The result here between our two cards is about as dead even as you can get. The overclocking of the ASUS ROG Strix RX 7600 OC gives a slight advantage of 2 1/2%. Both cards give fast FPS without upscaling. The game is very playable at these settings, providing 80FPS at 1080p with EPIC game settings is more than playable, so it does provide a great gameplay experience.

Forspoken

Forspoken was released on January 24th, 2023, on the PC and uses the Luminous Engine. The game supports all upscaling methods and Ray Tracing. We are going to customize the settings and enable the highest graphics settings, including Ultra High Texture Memory. We use the built-in benchmark.

ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 7600 OC Edition: Forspoken performance

This game is very graphically demanding which shows in the results. The default ASUS ROG Strix RX 7600 OC does manage to come out in front by 10%, with a tie between the MBA RX 7600 and our overclocked card. FSR brings the two cards even and the overclocked card takes the win by 19%. FSR definitely helps here bringing both cards to playable levels. We’ve sometimes seen this game regress in performance, with AMD overclocking, it could be a bug, so this has happened with other cards before. Regardless, the game is very playable at 66FPS with the video card and provides a good gameplay experience.

Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol was released in December of 2022 on the PC and is based on Unreal Engine 4. We run the game in DX12 mode with unlimited framerate, and all graphics settings enabled and at the highest graphics settings. This game supports ray-traced shadows, reflections, and transmissions. We use the built-in benchmark.

Another virtual tie. Both cards are able to make just over 60FPS and 70FPS with FSR. The overclocked ASUS ROG Strix RX 7600 OC has a 4% advantage. But of course, the game is very playable over 60FPS and very smooth on the video card.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition

Chernobylite, based on Unreal Engine 4, was released on the PC in 2021, but the Enhanced Edition update for the game was released in April 2022. The Enhanced Edition provides a visual overhaul of the game with better textures, plus introduces tessellation and ray tracing features. It features raytraced reflections, raytraced translucency, raytraced caustics, and raytraced dynamic diffuse global illumination. It supports upscaling, and we use the highest quality. We use the built-in benchmark.

The results once again are almost identical, with excellent FPS shown in all cases. The ASUS ROG Strix RX 7600 OC has a slim 2% advantage. Overclocking pushes the result to 3% better. The game is more than playable at nearly 100FPS.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC.  It uses Techland’s C-Engine and supports Ray Tracing for various environmental effects including Ray Traced Soft Shadows, Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion, Ray Traced Global Illumination, and Ray Traced Reflections.  It also supports both DLSS and FSR 2.0 upscaling technologies.  We are using the game’s built-in benchmark. We use the game patched to 1.10.3.

These results flip-flop depending on what you like. The FPS is fast regardless. The ASUS ROG Strix RX 7600 OC takes the nod by 2% but loses the day when FSR is enabled by 12%. Overclocking does help quite a bit here, with a 7% uptick.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.62 for our testing. We test using the built-in benchmark. Preset options for Ultra quality are used. Ray Tracing testing uses the “Ultra” presets. This game also supports DLSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution FSR 2.1.  We test FSR 2.1 Ultra Quality on AMD GPUs.

This game is still the “Big Daddy” and both cards give excellent results. Once again the ASUS ROG Strix RX 7600 OC is 2% better. The overclock does up the FPS by 5% here. FSR boosts the framerates nicely.

SUMMARY

This review is testing the ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 7600 OC Edition video card. The card is well built and has excellent cooling capability. Performance in games and overclocking ability however are no better than cards costing less. Ray Tracing performance also is not much to talk about unless upscaling technology is utilized. The main issue with this video card is the cost performance ratio, so watch for price drops, otherwise this ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 7600 OC Edition does fulfill its namesake as the top-tier ASUS model.
