TOHO has revealed that Godzilla Minus One, the 37th film in the Godzilla franchise (and TOHO’s 33rd), will be released in U.S. theaters on December 1, 2023, following its initial premiere in Japan on November 3, 2023. The date was confirmed in a new official trailer that TOHO released for the film today, which includes the usual shots of people trying to outrun Godzilla, now causing problems in postwar Japan. Godzilla Minus One is directed and written by Takashi Yamazaki, whose previous credits include the CG animated films Dragon Quest: Your Story and Lupin III: The First.
After the war, Japan’s economic state has been reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state.
