It appears that the Exynos mobile processor line will continue to use AMD graphics for a while longer as Samsung reveals its successor. Earlier this week it was said that the Exynos 2200 could be the last Exynos processor, with its Xclipse GPU, to utilize an AMD architecture but on the heels of that, Samsung has revealed its new Exynos 2400. The Exynos 2400 will have the new Xclipse 940 GPU which uses AMD RNDA3. This news was announced during Samsung’s System LSI Tech Day 2023.

Per Samsung (via official page):

“One of the event’s highlights was the preview of Samsung’s next-generation flagship mobile processor, the Exynos 2400 with Xclipse 940 GPU based on the latest AMD RDNA™ 3 architecture. A live demo showcased the processor’s substantially enhanced ray tracing capability, promising improved realism and immersion in gaming through a range of optical effects including global illumination, reflection and shadow rendering.”

“Achieving significant advancements in computing performance, the Exynos 2400 processor features a 1.7x increase in CPU performance and a remarkable 14.7x boost in AI performance compared to the previous Exynos 2200 product. Additionally, Samsung introduced a new AI tool designed for upcoming smartphones, demonstrating text-to-image AI generation using its Exynos 2400 reference board.”

Now even as Samsung reveals the Exynos 2400 processor it is still highly possible that it will eventually stop using AMD graphics as it is known that an in-house GPU is in the works and expected by 2025. Additionally, it has been suggested that the Exynos 2400 processor will be limited to select markets and models.

Per VideoCardz:

“Rumors suggest that Samsung plans to use the Exynos 2400 in select regional versions of the Galaxy S24 and S24+ models, while the Ultra version is expected to exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.”

A leaked slide is showing the Xclipse 940 underperforming compared to the current Adreno 740 but it is possible this is merely an early test done with the processor not yet being fully optimized.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
