Core i9-14900K vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D Gaming Performance

We’ve got 20 games of performance graphs to show you today. The GPU common to both CPUs is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition with driver 537.42. We are running each game at 1080p to see maximum CPU performance differences. In our experience between these CPUs, 4K showed no differences in performance, and 1440p had smaller differences, the largest differences were experienced at 1080p. You can see 1440p and 4K gaming performance in each individual review for each CPU 14900K here and 7800X3D here. We have each game running at the highest possible game settings, without Ray Tracing, this is purely native and rasterized performance. All graphs are sorted by the fastest CPU first.

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol Performance Graph

Starting off in The Callisto Protocol, we are running the game with the highest graphics settings at 1080p on the GeForce RTX 4090. In this game, the Intel Core i9-14900K edges out performance over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D by 2%. The difference here is not noticeable in gameplay.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II Performance Graph

In Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, we are running at the highest graphics settings in the game, at 1080p. Here the Intel Core i9-14900K edges out the Ryzen 7 7800X3D by a very small 1%, and this is so close that it is practically the same and makes no gameplay difference, it’s even more narrow than The Callisto Protocol was.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition Performance Graph

In Chernobylite Enhanced Edition we are running at the highest Ultra settings at 1080p in the game. In this game, we do see a higher difference in performance between the two CPUs compared to the two previous games. Here, the Intel Core i9-14900K is 6% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and constitutes a more meaningful difference in performance between the two CPUs, with the 14900K taking the lead. That said, at such high framerates, above 300 FPS, it is hard to really tell the difference in gameplay between them, but that 6% difference is certainly noteworthy.

Counter Strike 2

Counter Strike 2 Performance Graph

Ah, in Counter Strike 2 we are running at 1080p and the Very High graphics preset. In this game we see the Intel Core i9-14900K take a sizable lead over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. In this game, the Intel Core i9-14900K is 10% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. We are testing in the Mirage map in this game. This difference is the largest we’ve seen so far and leans toward the Intel Core i9-14900K as being a real contender for the performance crown in games such as this.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 Performance Graph

In Cyberpunk 2077 we are testing the new 2.02 patch version at 1080p with the “Ultra” graphics preset set with no upscaling. Once again we see the the Intel Core i9-14900K take a slight lead, but a lesser one in this game, about 2% over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
