Core i9-14900K vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D Gaming Performance Cont.

We’ve got 20 games of performance graphs to show you today. The GPU common to both CPUs is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition with driver 537.42. We are running each game at 1080p to see maximum CPU performance differences. In our experience between these CPUs, 4K showed no differences in performance, and 1440p had smaller differences, the largest differences were experienced at 1080p. You can see 1440p and 4K gaming performance in each individual review for each CPU 14900K here and 7800X3D here. We have each game running at the highest possible game settings, without Ray Tracing, this is purely native and rasterized performance. All graphs are sorted by the fastest CPU first.

Hitman 3

Hitman 3 Performance Graph

In Hitman 3 we have set all the quality options to the highest levels at 1080p. In this game, we find that the Intel Core i9-14900K outperforms the Ryzen 7 7800X3D by 2%, and at over 400 FPS you cannot tell the difference.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn Performance Graph

In Horizon Zero Dawn we have the game set to favor quality at 1080p. This is another game that seems to love that L3 cache. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 6% faster than the Intel Core i9-14900K here.

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition Performance Graph

In Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition we are running the Extreme profile, and keep in mind that since this is the Enhanced Edition Ray Tracing is enabled. We find that even at 1080p, both CPUs perform exactly the same in this game with no change, we are GPU-bound at these settings even at 1080p in this game. Note that Intel APO is not enabled in this BIOS on this motherboard, so that is not being used.

Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Siege Performance Graph

In Rainbow Six Siege we have the highest graphics settings enabled at 1080p. This game greatly favors the Intel Core i9-14900K and must be very frequency-sensitive compared to cache-sensitive. The Intel Core i9-14900K outperforms the Ryzen 7 7800X3D by 15% which is very significant in this game.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 Performance Graph

In Red Dead Redemption 2 we have manually configured each quality setting to the highest level, and we are running in the Vulkan API at 1080p. This game performs very well on the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D outperforms the Intel Core i9-14900K by 14%, which is on the larger side.
