System Storage Benchmarks

3DMark

We are using 3DMark’s Storage Benchmark which tests common gaming workload traces. The benchmark tests loading Battlefield V, Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and Overwatch. It tests moving games by copying a Steam folder for CS:GO, and installing Outer Worlds from the Epic Games Launcher, and saving game progress in The Outer Worlds. It tests recording a 1080p gameplay video at 60FPS with OBS while playing Overwatch. We will graph the Overall Benchmark Score, higher is better.

MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO FROZR 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD 3DMark Storage Benchmark

In the 3DMark Storage Benchmark, the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD is off to a fast start, beating the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB SSD by 3%. These results are so close, however, that in real-world terms the difference is not noticeable. Compared to the ADATA LEGEND 970 the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO is much higher at 26% faster, this is noticeable, due to its higher specced read/write throughput.

In addition, the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB SSD has a very fast access time when compared with other SSDs. This leads to the performance advantages as well in the 3DMark Storage test, and as you will see below, the PCMark storage tests. The detailed performance data from the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is shown below in the table.

MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZRBandwidthAccess Time
Load Battlefield V1530.04 MB/s49 μs
Load Call of Duty: Black Ops 41119.96 MB/s58 μs
Load Overwatch594.71 MB/s38 μs
Record Game256.06 MB/s32 μs
Install Game346.67 MB/s39 μs
Save Game298.26 MB/s25 μs
Move Game4897.32 MB/s53 μs

When you compare this data to the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD you will find that a lot of the access times lineup, there are a few faster on the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD. The bandwidth results seem to be slightly higher on the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD as well, and this all lends to the overall result being higher for the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD. When you compare the data to the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD, you will notice both the bandwidth is higher, and the access time is better, on the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD, lending to the higher overall benchmark score.

PCMark 10

We are using PCMark 10’s Full System Drive Storage Benchmark. It outputs an overall score (higher is better) that is derived from the Bandwidth (higher is better) as well as access time (lower is better) results.

MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO FROZR 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD PCMark 10 Full System Drive Benchmark

In PCMark 10’s full system drive storage benchmark, the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD is at the top of its game, scoring 4457 in the overall score. This puts it 8% faster than the CORSAIR MP700 PRO and 11% faster than the ADATA LEGEND 970. What’s really exciting is to see how much better it is overall compared to the previous MSI SSDs that it improves over.

Compared to the MSI SPATIUM M480 HS it is 77% faster and compared to the MSI SPATIUM M470 it is 100% faster, these differences are huge. This really shows how much faster in bandwidth and access time the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR SSD is over the previous SPATIUM M480 and M470 providing a huge upgrade path. Even compared to the fastest Gen4 SSD on this graph, the Netac NV7000-t the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is 27% faster.

MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO FROZR 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD Full System Drive Benchmark Average Access Time

The average access time test in PCMark 10’s Storage Benchmark shows you a closer look at where things line up. The access time of the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is one of the main reasons we are seeing such large performance advantages in the 3DMark and PCMark testing, which puts a lot of weight on the access time in relation to the bandwidth. The MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR comes in with the fastest average access time of 37 microseconds, which is 8% faster in access time compared to the CORSAIR MP700 PRO and 10% faster than the ADATA LEGEND 970.

Still, the difference between three microseconds is minuscule compared to the huge advantages over the previous generation MSI SPATIUM M480 HS and M470. The MSI SPATIUM M480 HS has a high access time, comparatively at 68 microseconds, and the M470 at 77 microseconds, these are definitely more noticeable. The new MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR improves upon the M480 access time by 46% and the M470 by 52%. This is a huge upgrade in access time.

MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO FROZR 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD PCMark 10 Quick System Drive Benchmark

In the above graph, we are testing PCMark 10’s Quick Storage Benchmark, which utilizes a lighter workload of traces meant for smaller drives, it provides an interesting contrast to the wide-ranging test of the full benchmark above. The MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is again at the top of its game in smaller workload sizes. It is 9% faster than the CORSAIR MP700 PRO and ADATA LEGEND 970.

The real advantage is compared to the previous-gen MSI SPATIUM M470 which the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is 75% faster and 100% faster than the M480. This again shows how the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is a huge upgrade over the previous generation M480 and M470. Even compared to the fastest Gen4 SSD on the graph the MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO 2TB FROZR is 54% faster.
