System Storage Benchmarks

3DMark

We are using 3DMark’s Storage Benchmark which tests common gaming workload traces. The benchmark tests loading Battlefield V, Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and Overwatch. It tests moving games by copying a Steam folder for CS:GO, and installing Outer Worlds from the Epic Games Launcher, and saving game progress in The Outer Worlds. It tests recording a 1080p gameplay video at 60FPS with OBS while playing Overwatch. We will graph the Overall Benchmark Score, higher is better.

3DMark Storage Benchmark Graph

In 3DMark Storage Benchmark, the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD has a sizable advantage over the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD in this gaming-oriented benchmark. The CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB Gen5 SSD comes in with a score that is 22% better than the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB Gen5 SSD. The detailed performance data from the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD is shown below in the table.

CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TBBandwidthAccess Time
Load Battlefield V1361.91 MB/s55 μs
Load Call of Duty: Black Ops 41024.52 MB/s63 μs
Load Overwatch560.29 MB/s42 μs
Record Game262.01 MB/s32 μs
Install Game347.72 MB/s38 μs
Save Game297.45 MB/s24 μs
Move Game4786.58 MB/s54 μs

When you compare this data to the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD Review, you will notice both the bandwidth is higher, and the access time better, on the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB SSD, lending to the higher overall benchmark score.

PCMark 10

We are using PCMark 10’s Full System Drive Storage Benchmark. It outputs an overall score (higher is better) that is derived from the Bandwidth (higher is better) as well as access time (lower is better) results.

PCMark 10 Storage Full System Drive Benchmark Graph

In PCMark 10’s full system drive storage benchmark, the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD leads the pack in performance with the highest score of 4115 in this storage benchmark. It exceeds the ADATA LEGEND 970 by 2%. What is impressive is to see the massive performance difference compared to the previous generation CORSAIR MP600, with a 91% improvement in the score! Keep in mind, that the MP600 was an earlier generation Gen4 drive, so the differences are pretty massive here. The MP700 PRO dominates performance. Compared to the fastest Gen4 SSD on this graph it has a score that is 17% higher.

PCMark 10 Storage Full System Drive Benchmark Average Access Time Graph

The average access time test in PCMark 10’s Storage Benchmark shows you a closer look at where things line up. The CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD also has the best access time and is right in line with the ADATA LEGEND 970 in this regard. Compared to the CORSAIR MP600 though, it is a massive improvement of 50% better access times. Even compared to the fastest Gen4 SSD, the CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD is 15% faster on access time.

PCMark 10 Storage Quick System Drive Benchmark Graph

In the above graph, we are testing PCMark 10’s Quick Storage Benchmark, which utilizes a lighter workload of traces meant for smaller drives, it provides an interesting contrast to the wide-ranging test of the full benchmark above. The CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD again edges out the ADATA LEGEND 970, this time by a smaller margin, but both are a lot faster than any Gen4 SSD. The CORSAIR MP700 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 is literally 66% faster than the CORSAIR MP600 in this test. That DRAM cache is doing its job for sure.
