ASUS is planning to launch a next-generation version of the ROG Ally in 2024, according to new comments that were allegedly made this week by Arnold Su, Vice President of the Consumer/Gaming PC and System Business Group at ASUS India. According to Su, the ROG Ally 2 will run Windows, just like the current models, and it’s also being designed with a larger focus on gaming—something that could imply brand-new gaming features, or, as many users have been wishing, better battery life.

Su on the ROG Ally:

  • “…we most likely will launch a second generation [handheld gaming console] this year. We will still keep the Windows features, but we will focus more on gaming”
  • “…in India we sold around 70,000–80,000 units [of the ROG Ally]”

Current models include:

  • ROG Ally with Ryzen Z1 Extreme ($699.99)
  • ROG Ally with Ryzen Z1 ($399.99)

ASUS on AMD’s Ryzen Z1 series, designed specifically for handheld PCs:

The Ally is powered by an all-new Ryzen Z1 Series processor from AMD. Built on the “Zen 4” architecture combined with AMD RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor rivals the prowess of game consoles, featuring 8 cores, 16 threads, and up to 8.6 teraflops of graphics processing power. An AMD Ryzen Z1 variant will be available later in 2023 with 6 cores and 12 processing threads, and both models support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and AMD Radeon Super Resolution upscaling technologies for excellent performance and stunning visuals in demanding AAA and indie titles.
