YouTube has announced that it is rolling out a 1080p Enhanced option for YouTube TV, a new quality setting that is said to deliver the “highest video quality” for those who are subscribed to the streaming television platform. 1080p Premium, a similar setting that allows YouTube users to watch Full HD videos at a highter bitrate, was launched last year.

YouTube’s announcement:

We’re rolling out a 1080p Enhanced option for YouTube TV and Primetime Channels subscribers. The option will be available on updated 4K-compatible streaming devices and delivers our highest video quality. Viewers can navigate to video quality settings at any time to update their preferred setting. To ensure access to 1080p Enhanced and the best possible viewing experience, we recommend you upgrade to a 4K-compatible streaming device.

YouTube TV plans include:

  • Base Plan ($62.99/mo)
    • 100+ live channels
    • Unlimited DVR space
    • Special features like Key Plays View
    • 6 household accounts and 3 streams
  • Spanish Plan ($34.99/mo)
    • 30+ Spanish networks
    • Unlimited DVR space
    • Special features like Key Plays View
    • 6 household accounts and 3 streams

YouTube on its 1080p Premium setting:

1080p Premium is an enhanced bitrate version of 1080p. An enhanced bitrate provides more information per pixel, resulting in a higher quality viewing experience. Videos are only eligible for an enhanced bitrate if they were uploaded in 1080p. You won’t find the 1080p Premium option for:

  • Live Streams
  • Shorts
  • Videos uploaded at resolutions higher or lower than 1080p

To give you the best viewing experience, YouTube changes the quality of your video stream based on your viewing conditions. If you have a Premium membership, your resolution may automatically set to 1080p Premium.
