Sony has realized that console exclusivity isn’t the most lucrative option for PlayStation anymore and that multiplatform is the better path forward for improving margins, according to new comments shared today by Hiroki Totoki, who Sony appointed as President, COO on April 1, 2023. Some people seem to think that this means PlayStation could be considering bringing its first-party games day-and-date to the PC, but while Totoki didn’t exactly say that, it’s worth noting that HELLDIVERS 2, which was published by PlayStation PC LLC, was released for both PS5 and PC on February 8, 2024.
Totoki said:
- “It’s been four months since I became chairman of SIE. A big problem of SIE that I found is they don’t necessarily have a deep understanding of how their work is being translated to growth, generation of sustainable profits, and higher margins for the unit as a whole”
- “In the past, we wanted to popularize console, and the 1st party titles’ main purpose was to make the PlayStation console popular. It is true, but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first-party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, 1st party can be grown with multiplatform and that can help operating profit to improve. So that is another one we want to proactively work on.”
- “I personally think there are opportunities out there for improvement of margins, so I would like to go aggressive in improving our margin performance.”
PC day and date is inevitable, especially with the success of Helldivers 2 on Steam

HELLDIVERS 2 description:
HELLDIVERS 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.

But yeah, keep those console exclusives coming to PC. The sooner the better (although as I said before, I don't mind waiting, cuz it takes me a long time to get around to any game most of the time, regardless of platform). I've had at least one console every generation since 2nd-gen, but it would be nice if all their exclusives were on PC, and I wouldn't need to use consoles anymore.
I'm totally fine with timed exclusives but it sure would be nice if it got down to 1 year instead of 2 or more. I don't want them to cannibalize their bread-and-butter income with the hardware but I'd like to see more, sooner.
I don't mind the wait when the PC version comes with all of the DLC addon's. ;)
Not to mention multiple patches worth of updates and bug fixes.
Yeah, let the console pheasants be the guinea pigs so it's a well polished game by the time it makes it to PC. I like.
Exactly to all of this. A year is usually enough, but 2-4 gets to be a bit much. Still happy when they do arrive though.
