For our testing, we will focus on the 1080p gameplay experience for every game. However, we will test at several different game quality preset settings, from Low to Medium, to High to Ultra as the performance demands. This will give us a clear picture of how the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G up and down game quality settings. We will also turn on the highest quality mode of FSR upscaling in the games that support it, at each graphics setting. This means we will have several graphs, per-game, to show and we will divide them up in alphabetical order on each page as you go through the review.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 7 5700G Game Performance Graph

We naturally expect Cyberpunk 2077 to be demanding, but surprisingly this game is playable on “Low” quality with FSR on the 8700G. If you are willing to settle for mid-40s FPS then the 8700G can pull it off without upscaling as well. If you are fine with upscaling using FSR then even the 8600G is playable as well, something the 5700G cannot even come close to in this game, which means the 8000G is a huge upgrade over it for this game.

At “Low” quality preset, the 8700G is 139% faster than the 5700G, the highest results we’ve seen yet. The 8600G is 102% faster than the 5700G, the highest result we’ve seen for it as well. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 18%. FSR also adds a lot to performance in this game and gives the 8700G a 33% boost to performance and the 8600G gets a 37% boost to performance.

Now, once we move up to the “Medium” quality preset, the only APU that is semi-playable is the 8700G with FSR upscaling enabled. Otherwise, the others are not. The 8700G is 163% faster than the 5700G though, and the 8600G is 123% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G narrows as well since they are more bottlenecked. FSR adds 36% performance to the 8700G.

For completion’s sake, here is the “High” quality result, and nothing is playable here, even with FSR. The 8700G is 152% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 113% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 18%.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 7 5700G Game Performance Graph

Dying Light 2 is a two-year-old game at this point, but still demanding, and does get updates that supports the latest features. Even on “Low” quality preset, this game is demanding on these APUs. Even the Ryzen 7 8700G is not playable on Low, it does require you to enable FSR to get an enjoyable gameplay experience. We find that the 8700G is 94% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 75% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is small here, 11%. Turning on FSR improves performance by 32% on the 8700G and brings it up to playable performance.

There isn’t a huge drop in performance at Medium quality, but the game is still unplayable of course without FSR on the 8700G. The 8700G is 99% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 77% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 13% and FSR adds 34% more performance.

Dying Light 2 Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 7 5700G Game Performance Graph

The game is definitely not playable at High-quality settings, even with FSR. The 8700G is 104% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 76% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 16%.

F1 2022

F1 2022 Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 7 5700G Game Performance Graph

F1 2022 came out two years ago in 2022, and this game performs extremely well on these APUs. In fact, this is the first time the Ryzen 7 5700G felt playable with or without FSR. The Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G perform extremely well at “Low” quality settings, providing 100FPS without upscaling at all. We find the 8700G is 118% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 94% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is only 13%. FSR doesn’t add much to performance at these settings, but it doesn’t need to at these framerates.

Raising the game quality up to Medium still performs very well on the 8700G and 8600G with playable performance without needing upscaling. The 8700G is 116% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 91% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 13%. FSR does add more to performance at Medium quality, with it adding 21% on the 8700G.

Even moving up to High-quality preset works great in this game, and the 8600G can provide 60FPS without needing upscaling. The 8700G is 125% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 97% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 14%.

This is the first game to actually be playable on the “Ultra” setting at 1080p on the Ryzen 7 8700G, or with FSR on the 8600G. The 8700G is 130% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 96% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 18%. FSR adds 21% to performance.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the AMD Ryzen 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G versus the Ryzen 7 5700G APUs in integrated graphics (iGPU) performance in 17 games at 1080p, various graphics settings, and FSR. We found the 8700G and 8600G to be substantial upgrades over the previous generation in gaming performance, allowing playable performance in modern games. Based on Zen 4 and the new RDNA 3 graphics architecture, these APUs support the latest features for gaming. The pricing could use a bit of a nudge down, but otherwise they offer a great value for combining CPU and on board GPU.
