Gaming Performance Al-Ch
For our testing, we will focus on the 1080p gameplay experience for every game. However, we will test at several different game quality preset settings, from Low to Medium, to High to Ultra as the performance demands. This will give us a clear picture of how the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G up and down game quality settings. We will also turn on the highest quality mode of FSR upscaling in the games that support it, at each graphics setting. This means we will have several graphs, per-game, to show and we will divide them up in alphabetical order on each page as you go through the review.
Alan Wake 2
The first game up is Alan Wake 2, which is a brand new game, and very demanding. Since it is so new, it requires the use of mesh shaders, however, the Ryzen 7 5700G with Vega 8 graphics does not support this, and thus would not run. Therefore, we can only show Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G performance in this game. 
Even on the “Low” Preset, this game is unplayable on the 8700G and 8600G. We can see that there is a 20% difference in performance between them, but the performance is severely bottlenecked in this game. FSR does improve performance, we can get above 30FPS (a 58% increase in performance), but that is still too slow for this game, and even at these lowest settings, you just won’t be playing this particular game on these new APUs. Let’s look at some other games though, this one is a bit unique in its demanding nature, but we wanted to make sure to include it.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a ‘newish’ game as well and is also very demanding on hardware. Starting off at the “Low” quality preset, we find the new Ryzen 7 8700G is 113% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 88% faster than the 5700G. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 13%. In this game, the Ryzen 7 8700G is playable without upscaling, at Low settings. However, if we want to enable FSR then the 8600G is also very playable with FSR, FSR seems to give the 8700G and 8600G a 37% and 40% boost to performance.
Performance is not so bad at “Medium” quality preset either. The 8700G is 114% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 82% faster than the 5700G. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 18%. FSR greatly improves performance and allows the 8700G to hit above 60FPS at Medium quality preset, and with FSR the 8600G is also very playable.
Now things are starting to get tough for these APUs at “High” quality preset. The 8700G is 110% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 85% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G narrows to 14%. At these settings, only the 8700G is playable with FSR which gives it a 36% boost to performance.
Just for completion’s sake, we also bumped the game up to “Very High” quality, and here even the 8700G struggles with FSR enabled. The 8700G is 100% faster than the 5700G, but that is not enough even with the 31% boost FSR is providing, to make this quality setting playable.
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition is an older game, but with the Enhanced Edition comes upgraded textures, features, and ray tracing support. Starting with the “Low” quality preset, the Ryzen 7 8700G is 87% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 61% faster than the 5700G. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 16%. In this game, FSR does a lot for performance, we see a massive 70% boost to performance on the 8700G with FSR bringing performance to over 100FPS. The 8600G gets a 72% boost to performance. We can also see that this game is very playable on the 8700G and even 8600G, without upscaling, with the Low-quality setting.  
Bumping the game up to Medium quality does bring performance down a lot here. Without upscaling, even the 8700G is not playable, but with FSR the 8700G and 8600G ARE playable in performance. The 8700G is 91% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 66% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G is 15%. FSR adds 66% more performance, and now the 8700G and 8600G are playable.
Once we move up to the “High” quality preset, even with FSR this game is not playable on these APUs. The 8700G is 65% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 53% faster. The difference between the 8700G and 8600G narrows a lot, as they are much more bottlenecked. FSR does add performance, but not as much at these higher settings, and not enough to make the game playable.  
Again, for completion’s sake, we included “Ultra” settings in this game, and you can see that performance is not playable and under 30FPS. The 8700G is 63% faster than the 5700G and the 8600G is 49% faster.
