Embracer Group is selling one of its largest subsidiaries, Saber Interactive, to a group of private investors in a deal that is reportedly worth up to $500 million, according to a new report. Sources say that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, one of the studio’s current projects, remains in development at Saber Interactive despite rumors of it having been canceled.

The report notes:

  • Saber will become a privately owned company with around 3,500 employees
  • Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic remains in development at Saber following its move from Aspyr Media, the game’s original developer, in 2022
  • The deal marks Embracer’s latest attempt at shedding costs following what was supposed to be a major partnership with a gaming group falling through
  • Embracer purchased Saber for $525 million in 2020
  • Saber has the option of bringing along multiple Embracer subsidiaries as part of the $500 million deal

Saber Interactive’s current projects include:

  • A Quiet Place
  • Rails of Fury: Train Defence
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake
  • Untitled Painkiller title
  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
  • Jurassic Park: Survival

Bloomberg added:

Saber, the developer of games such as Snowrunner and World War Z, operates studios in several countries, including the US, Portugal and Russia. In addition to making its own original titles, it does work for other developers.
