Power and Temperature

To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data.  We used GPUZ sensor data to record the results.  We report on the GPUZ sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data.  For temperature data, we report the GPU (Edge Temp of the GPU) as well as the Hot Spot (Junction Temperature) when available for our temperature data.

Power

This chart clearly shows that both Radeon RX cards use more power than their RTX counterpart. The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC uses more power than the listed TBP in the default and then uses another 20% more when overclocked. In default settings, the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC uses 6% more power than its non-XT counterpart and 56% more than the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile.

Temperature

When you compare these video cards, the striking results are the “hot spot” on the overclocked GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC and the GPU temperature of the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile. It would seem that both could be explained by the size of the fans. Obviously, the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile has a tiny heatsink with 60mm fans, running on automatic in this case.

The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC has a pretty hefty heatsink but only 80mm fans. Even running 100% they were just able to adequately cool the GPU. Surprisingly, the GPU stays a cool 44C but the “hot spot” has a 50C delta.

To get a better picture of the temperatures, we re-ran the benchmark looking at AVERAGE temperatures. You can see that in the middle screen capture below. The “MAXIMUM” temperature recorded was 94C, while the “AVERAGE” temperature was 87C. This “average” was the “maximum” on the other cards. Apparently the throttle limit at the “hot spot” is 100C, so this may affect top-end performance.

It certainly is noisy running those 80mm fans at full tilt. That and even under default settings, the fans on this card will ramp up to 100% during testing. Even then, the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC ran every test without a hiccup, never crashed, and never complained. Below are the GPUZ temperature sensor data. Default, average, and overclocked.

SUMMARY

This review tests the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC in gaming performance, overclocking and cooling. We compared the video card to the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC and GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile at 1080p and 1440p as well as ray tracing. The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC is a well built video card but suffers from noise issues as the cooling fans ramp up. The overall gaming performance is difficult to separate from the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC. Overclocking performance is solid but the cooling fan issue complicates this. All in all, the difficult decision with this video card is performance versus price and noise profile at higher clock speeds.
